I know someone whose kid got admitted to that London side door option. That’s what it is, right?
They seem to have bought into the marketing of it all and are convinced that there is enormous prestige to being selected for this program. It’s so earnest that of course people just nod and smile.
I personally think it could be a real growth experience to start college out of the country, so undoubtedly there are benefits.
But I think I would still recognize this as a money grab mechanism to accept my kid as a backup on reserve so that he can be a replacement the next year for the kids they accept to the Boston campus this year but end up failing or dropping out.

For the Boston campus, Northeastern's early action acceptance rate was 5%. There were 56,000 applications and 2,640 admissions. Northeastern's yield is around 50% so that would mean 1,300 students were admitted early action. If 1,400 were admitted ED, then that means 2,700 Boston students will be enrolled from just EDI and EA, nevermind EDII or regular decision.

Northeastern has agreed to limit Boston enrollment to no more than 3,500.

Northeastern is treading very carefully with the city of Boston because of their yield issue a couple of years ago. So the numbers of 1,400 admitted EDI have to be off or Northeastern will run afoul of the city. Incidentally, Boston just approved the new dorm that precipitated the Boston enrollment cap agreement.

According to collegekickstart's blog, ED2 acceptance rate is 20%. There are only 2,500 Boston slots available. The numbers quoted above don't make sense in that 1,400 students are admitted ED1 to Boston. There were 6,400 applications for EDI and EDII, so 3,000 for EDII, at 20%, that would mean 2,000 students were admitted ED to Boston (out of 2,500 total enrolled freshmen). That would leave only 500 slots for the regular decision/early action rounds. According to Northeastern's common data set for the past 10 years, 35% of students are admitted early decision. So I question that Northeastern admitted 1,400 students EDI to Boston.

Northeastern's yield rate went up in 2021. Combined with the covid chaos and NU.in students inability to do a semester abroad cause NEU a lot of headaches.

That's why you see the Boston campus be so selective.

They also received a record number of ED applicants this yeae, almost 6,400. EDI definitely provides and advantage for admission. EDII less so.
