Anonymous wrote:No, there is no obsession, but some UVA boosters on DCUM certainly want you to believe it. UVA is a good public university. There are many such. That's all.

UVA has produced far more Rhodes Scholars

Which NO ONE (but you) cares about. PP is correct.

Anonymous wrote:Michigan on par with Berkeley? are you kidding?
UC Berkeley is a world-renowned institution. Not sure how many people outside US have ever heard of Michigan. I meant the University of Michigan, not the State of Michigan.
Actually The University of Michigan is highly ranked in all international polls. It’s UVA that’s a no show among the elite. Thus my original point that Michigan is much more of a peer to Cal than UVA is to Michigan. Not that complicated to understand

UMD just broke into T50 this year for the first time in history, while UVA has been T25 for decades.
Berkeley is way better than UVA.
Vandy, CMU, Michigan and UNC are peers of UVA.
For in-state VA students, UVA is much harder to get into than Michigan or UNC.
For OOS students, I am not surprised that Michigan or UNC is more favored, given UVA's ridiculous OOS tuition.

It was seen as a big step up from College Park.
Michigan is more a peer of Berkeley than UVA. It has strengths across disciplines that UVA could only dream of.
Michigan is just as expensive, if not more, than UVA for OOS.
