No one in the Freedom Caucus is an actual legislator. Their grift is making ridiculous demands that they know are not politically feasible. They don’t negotiate and they don’t even fill in the details of how their dumb shit would work. Any bill they would vote for is a waste of time. McCarthy has no choice but to call their bluff eventually. His protection is simply that there is no one in the Republican caucus who could unite the factions any better so it would just be pointless chaos with the same result.

But if he negotiates with Democrats and tries to put a deal for a vote, won't the HFC do the motion to vacate and that would stop all proceedings until a new speaker is elected? Or would the motion get pushed back after a CR/appropriations vote?
