VT and JMU are trending upwards of being very difficult for a lot of kids to get into as well (thanks Covid, Common App, and OOS applicants). Where do kids who have a 3.5-3.8 GPA go? GMU, CNU, VCU, UMW, Longwood? You don't hear about a lot of kids going to Radford or ODU. Virginia had such great colleges, but it's becoming very difficult for a B-B+ kid to get into one of them.

I could be wrong but i think we're at an apex, demographically, and the number of applicants will soon start to fall in line with a declining number of high school seniors in the state overall.
I believe my DD said her graduating class is one of the biggest her school has ever had.

Pretty sure we're discussing VA state schools - so publics. W&L doesn't belong on this list.
OP: "Virginia had such great colleges."
Don't see "commonwealth / state.... public only" exclusively in there.
W&L is a VA college, and ranking wise in VA, the list is pretty much in line with people who know colleges in the commonwealth.
But this is DCUM....
Ok... but if you'd read the thread, you'll notice all the schools being discussed are publics.
Doesn't mean that privates cannot be discussed. And OP didn't limit the discussion to publics.
Virginia colleges.

This thread is so obviously about publics. When people say "Virginia schools/colleges," the implication is VA State schools. Duh.
Uh, no.
Virginia schools have both good private and public options.
But...most DCUM posters think UVA is like the only school in the state.
Trust me: nobody is talking about Radford.
Such a bizarre post. Did you even read the OP? There are so many publics in VA - and yes - people "are talking" about all of them. What most people are NOT talking about are the privates, because they're off the table for most.
If you can't get into UVA, guess that means you can't get into W&L ( and maybe Richmond) either. Probably the reason those two VA privates aren't mentioned much. You speak like the DCUM posters are poor. No - most are white and UMC.
And everyone on DCUM talks about UVA.
The others? Meh
Sure, Jan. There are a few UVA boosters who post over and over. VT seems to be the most popular school at my kids' high school. Everyone wants to go there.
VT has like a 55% acceptance rate and 40,000+ applications.
A pretty average college.
But continue...
Really not sure what point you think you're making, but do continue looking foolish.
