Why? Proxy war so far is net-positive for the us
Beyond the toll of human misery and death? Because the average regular joe in any country prefers and needs peace and stability.
Because war expands and increases the risk my son or my neighbors sons will be drafted. Because the US is dragging out what could have been negotiated and de-escalated. Because we are playing with the possibility of nuclear war and the annihilation of humanity. Because countries rise and fall but we only have 1 earth.

strategically the optimal solution (if you believe in American unipolarity) is to boil the pot just enough that Russia uses a nuke in Ukraine
Why?
Because nuclear use is a redline for the Russia-China and Russia-India relationship.
Goading Putin into using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine is 100% worth it to poison the former two relationships…which is what the us really wants to break
Furthermore, Putin using a nuke in Ukraine will scare Western Europe into furthering being strategically dependent on the us
Wow, you sound so caring about human livesNuclear weapon use in Ukraine will poison all adjacent countries. Do you suppose it will be just a milder version of Chernobyl?
And you think we will come out of it unscathed? And why would Putin want to poison the well he wants to drink from? He would rather send the nukes right into your backyard and fry your a**

LOL and then people say, no, this is not a proxy war at all.

Si Americans are fighting a war?
Or did he lose his clearance now that he fights for another country?
Huh? Visiting the front lines to see what's going on is not the same as picking up a rifle and joining in.
Img! American officer is on the front lines doing what???? How indoctrinated are you?
You sound very confused. And perhaps paranoid, to be yapping about "indoctrinated."
I am not confused. You clearly have no idea how clearances work. You serve your country, one country. So, if he is there all legally, he is serving the U.S., no? hence U.S. soldiers are fighting in the war in Ukraine.

I don't like the US getting entangled in foreign wars. But time and time again we have sent our money to overseas locations - Iraq ring a bell? - because reasons. We feel we have strategic reasons for wanting to (fill in the blank). I think Putin wants to re establish the former USSR and apparently, our analysts don't think that would be a good idea. I hate that it costs us money but don't you think it's probably a good idea for us to NOT give Putin whatever he wants on a silver platter? What would you just shrug as he invades a sovereign country? What if he turns on another one next? He's killing innocent civilians, you think we should just shrug?
Without costing a US military life, the US and the world has managed to bring the Russians to their knees. Why is this bad? Don't we want to stop the bullies?
Thank you for confirming you only count the American dead, everyone else is just noise.

But if you look at history, Russia has been invaded 3 times (Mongols, Napoleon and Hitler) in a major way. Sure Sweden and a few others took their shot but was not much.
As I rewind current history in my armchair quarterback luxury; Ukraine knows that they have one option, and they do not come out the good guy in anyones myopic view of current events.
1) Horde all western weapons, ask for more
2) Lie to their Western supporters as needed to support defense and economy and liberation of their country
3) Prepare for offense with no Western support
4) Occupy Russian western territory at high cost
5) Cede Russian territory to Russia; endure Russia's celebration of repelling NATO invasion
6) Eastern Ukiraine/Crimea become a DMZ
Ukraine will take a serious PR hit and be condemned for crossing the border and using western "defensive" weapons in Russia; but in reality that is their best play other than surrendering their land to Russia.
