It doesn’t really matter actually. Cops pull over drunk white people every night of the week and don’t beat and kill them.

Drunk teens run from cops and are not beaten.

Drunks after sporting events riot in the street, cops don’t beat them.

Cops can only use force when they believe there is a danger to themselves or the community. There never was.

Does a prosecutor count for you? Because my sister is a prosecutor watched the video and was beyond disgusted. She absolutely agrees with the murder charges.

No, she is nothing more than a lawyer. Please refer to the thread rules above ^

7 people in my family are LEO and they can name 5 violations of the law by the cops before he ran.

This is 1st degree murder open and shut.

He never was a threat.

Good luck with that. Just because he wasn't a threat doesn't mean you are going to get a 1st degree murder conviction. Some officers were guilty of absolutely nothing and one guy is likely guilty of something pretty bad like 2nd degree murder or manslaughter.

One?

They took turns kicking him and beating him with a baton.

One of the cops looked like he was unhinged, punching and kicking the suspect. I couldn't see where the baton strikes landed. The video footage isn't that great. Big difference between being hit in the leg with a baton and hitting someone in the head on purpose.

How can anyone feel safe around police no matter your color or their color? These men beat him to death.

I’m so heartbroken for his family. I can’t imagine dying like that. Feeling so helpless and terrified.

So sickening.

There's something really wrong with many, many, many men. They have these fragile little egos and when something doesn't go their way, they react to an insane level. Is it right to run from a cop? No, but it should never be a death sentence or result in straight up violence.

I generally advocate for doing what cops say and dealing with any wring doing in court. But after watching the video, how hot they came in, dragging him from the car, screaming and oepoer spraying him while he tried to de-escalate...at a certain point, if I think my life is in danger, I'm going to try to get away. I can't really blame him for that. Maybe they killed him because he ran, but Tyre ran because he thought they were going to kill him. And they did.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy.

Great strategy! Fight the police because they will kill you if you don't. ha

I mean he could have laid there and let them suffocate him against the ground or beat him to death on the spot. I’d at least give myself the chance to live by running. He’s seen all the same videos and court cases of these scenarios to know, he’s likely going to die. I mean hell at this point being in your home and eating ice cream or sleeping can get you killed by cops with zero liability from the cops. Reckless driving/DUI does not justify beating a person to death, but I guess if you are black that’s the reason it is. He pulled over and stopped for Christ sake.

+1. Tyre Nichols did not die because he failed to follow directions. He died because these pigs wanted to kill him. That’s it.

Cops murder people all the time who comply with their directions.

You think this never happens? A cop in Florida shot a Black behavioral therapist who was complying when the autistic boy who was supposed to comply wasn’t. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna745716

Video 1 begins with them pulling him over and ripping him out of the car.

They’ve kept other parts out.

I think it got even worse.

One rolled up and immediately started kicking the guy in the ribs. No hesitation.

May this death be the catalyst needed for more, better and longer police training that includes deescalation methods and building positive police culture.

Again, how did the whole thing start? At least two posters are now asking.
.

I don’t know. The news said it was a traffic stop. But there may have been another reason for the scorpion unit to go so violent so quickly.

Whatever the reason was, the police need more training on deescalation and appropriate level of force to do their tough jobs.

This was tragic and obviously excessive use of force even if he was a drug dealer or whatever. There was no evidence on the video he was reaching for a gun as the police claimed .they kept kicking and hitting him while he was handcuffed on the ground. It was clearly unnecessary use of lethal force.

What evidence is there of him being a drug dealer? When did this place become infested with racists?

Even assuming everything this person said was true the video is indefensible. Of course they're just talking out their rear.

You and person taking offense have reading comprehension issues. The person advocating for better and longer police training said he or she did not know what the reason the scorpion unit stopped him was. He or she said even it was something worse than a routine trait tx stop, and again they did not know, that the video made it clear that police force was brutal and unnecessary use of lethal force.

That's part of the message. The other part was them saying he shouldn't have been beaten even if he was a drug dealer. He wasn't a drug dealer. That accusation hasn't even been made by the police accused of beating him. But if enough people start saying things like that, others will latch onto his name and drug dealer, and assume it's true because he was a black man pulled over and beaten by the police, and they want to believe that police wouldn't do that without some sort of cause. It's an almost subtle way of planting the seeds of lies in people's heads.

If you really want to defend him and say he shouldn't have died, say he shouldn't have died. He shouldn't have been beaten. The police shouldn't have used force. Don't randomly insert crimes and say you don't know if he committed them but even if he did, that wouldn't justify killing him.

Depends on which officers you are talking about. The difference between the floyd case and this case is that officers were busy attempting to control the perp in this case.

Not, they were beating him for sport. It is disturbing you can’t recognize that.

+1 They’re shouting show us your hands as they're holding his hands, and get on the ground as he's on already on the ground. Then they’re deciding what their story should be later.

You left out the part of him continuing to resist officers. Only a crazy person would think this is a good way to get out of the situation unscathed. Did he think he was going to win the fight?

Why would there be a fight? Why did they rip him out of the car?

For those of you who don’t respect the Memphis chief of police for whatever reason, the white man in charge of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also finds this criminal and unacceptable.
