Fantastic. What a great person to represent a bunch of clueless bozos in Nassau county.

Love the Ripley reference!

thank you! I am sure I saw it referenced in Twitter or another article. It fits perfectly, except he isn't so talented.

Santos seems to have committed election funding crimes as well as defrauding the people of the United States. He may also have accepted illegal donations from foreign donors. He's in a heap of trouble. NY state needs a special election to replace him. He should be sued for the cost of a new election. Enjoy!

By most accounts, his opponent ran a half-assed campaign. No yard sign. No mailers. Very little media. Questionable GOTV. And then got swept up in the suburban hysteria about “crime.” Santos won the redder Long Island precincts of his district by 10 points. Suozzi screwed the Democrats by thinking he had a chance at the nomination for governor — not that Hochul isn’t an abomination:

Yard signs? If you are voting based on yard signs then why even bother to vote.

Candidates spend money on yard signs for a reason. Among other things, they serve as a reminder to come out and vote. Not all voters go straight party line and name recognition is important. Some want to feel validated that they’re voting for the person likely to win, and signs reinforce the perceived popularity of a candidate. There is a psychology to this which professional campaign managers adhere to.

Put in a little more effort than being "validated" by yard signs or end up with a con artist wierdo like Santos as your representative.

See upthread for the comments from the editorial board at Newsday - they didn’t endorse Santos but there’s no way that a Democrat was going to win. Republicans romped on Long Island this time.

Republicans now live in a "you can claim whatever you want" world of "alternative facts"

For someone who claims to have attended the Horace Mann School, a call center job seems suboptimal.

No. I don't think he is stupid. He saw the republicans we're going to win that district and got out. The republicans could have run a mushroom as long as it spouted maga nonsense. That district is full of dummies

Respectfully disagree. It should have been a very close race but for the failure to offer a coherent response to the crime I’d out of control message that took hold statewide. An older, establishment Dem was not at all a good choice for the district when enthusiasm was needed. Add to the mix the fact Santos is commonly perceived as idiosyncratic and is not infrequently referred to as a weirdo. His messaging on MAGA ran hot and cold.

In answer to a question that is chiefly rhetorical, I think you take the week to retain experienced counsel to advise you on your potential criminal exposure, not to mention issues that might go before the House Ethics Committee. Everything you say will be used against you. Any statement will have to be very carefully scripted from a legal and political standpoint. It’s not time to call a press conference and wing-it. Plus you need to reach of the likes of McCarthy to find out where they will come down. It’s time to move beyond the guy you know from around the way who became a criminal defense lawyer after leaving the NYPD if you’re suffering any delusion of salvaging an incipient political career.
