The lax bros I know in the mid-Atlantic State schools are wimpy and elitist non athletes for whom the rides ends abruptly if and when they graduate from college ... if they get that far.


Any one have stats to back up the notion that college lax players have a higher graduation rate than football/basketball?

I am no great fan of LAX for all the obvious reasons. But LAX players, like basketball and hockey players, are some of the best and most coordinated athletes around. The good ones are fast, have good endurance, have to be quick and have great hand-eye coordination.


Hmm. Guess that explains why DS is playing...hockey, lax, and b-ball.

I am no great fan of LAX for all the obvious reasons. But LAX players, like basketball and hockey players, are some of the best and most coordinated athletes around. The good ones are fast, have good endurance, have to be quick and have great hand-eye coordination.

I'd want my kid to play lacrosse. I wish I had played. Seems like an automatic ticket to popularity, hot women, college admissions somewhat better than you deserve, and $$$ jobs out of school.

OP: thank you for taking the time to make this post. It explains a lot of things for most of us.
So my question is...there are many sports out there. So why would you want your son playing lacrosse?
Based on the obvious, proven lacrosse culture, why would you let your daughters go near these guys?
If your building a college application for your high school son, do you think lacrosse will serve him well?
This is how I see it. The parents of these kids are not on duty or else they were nerds and want their kid to be cool?
Regarding the former group, how many of you are too proud to address the psychological problems that are apparent to everyone, except you? Ugh!

The stories from my UVA alum friends seems entirely consistent with a heavy drinking culture - not limited to lacrosse or athletics. I don't think it's seeing a huge reaction because it's so broad at UVA - making the incident seem like the aberration, and a domestic violence issue - not an alcohol issue. I don't think the will is there to change it.

He punch another player while the player was sleeping and even punch a female police officer! The coach knew GHV was a drunken bully and did nothing. The university did nothing (likely b/c the coach didn't report the incidents). What, UVa was state champs again last year? Awesome.


Huguely was basically a bench warmer on the UVA lax team -- their championship hopes didn't come close to riding on him. Surprised the coaches put up with any of it.


Looks like he'll be riding the pines in the Sate of Virginia Penal League

So it needs to be addressed at EVERY school. What the Sandusky travesty did was shine a light on some of Paterno's actions that included shielding his drunken football players from state police and university discipline and review. The local police would call Paterno at home and tell him they picked up a couple football players. Then Paterno would dole out his own punishment as he saw fit. Paterno also prohibited the school from implementing its review and discipline. Sure, it may happen at EVERY school. Just means there's more work to do to address it. The public/media did UVa no justice by looking the other way when it came to UVa lacrosse.

Yep. Even in the Northwest and Midwest campus intramural LAXers had the rep I grew up thinking only football players had.
