Masks do work. Of course we need them.

Masks are not mandatory now in classrooms in: UK, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium (12 & under), Russia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria (up to 5th grade), most of South America, etc.
Exactly. These Smart Restart and COVID fear porn will never say what their end game is for an endemic virus that will be here forever.
Here's Joseph Allen, Professor at Harvard who advised Arlington on its reopening this spring (and is one of the top professors on healthy buildings in the world):
“What’s causing all the confusion, the infighting, the disagreement — it’s really a lack of goal setting,” said Joseph G. Allen, a Harvard University expert on maintaining health inside buildings, including schools. “Zero Covid in schools? Well, that may not be possible.”
Teacher here. I don't care about goal setting and I don't think Covid will be eliminated. However, I can tell you without a doubt that I will not work in a classroom with unmasked and unvaccinated children. I will not.
And there are a lot of people like me. Therefore, if you think that you can bully teachers into accepting your position then you're wrong because we will walk out. We're already stretched as far as we can go. One more little push and there could well be a mass exodus.
So be careful what you wish for ... if you want your unvaccinated children to be unmasked in the classroom then you should be prepared to teach them yourselves. My health and wellbeing is more important to me than the education of your child.![]()
It's really sad to see there's anti-vaxxers teachers our children, who don't believe vaccines work. I think it's time for you to leave the profession if you don't believe in science.

I'm a parent and I'm totally with you. Every parent and student I know is totally on board with masks. Don't pay attention to APE - they are just a few out of touch angry parents venting on DCUM. They don't even dare to speak about their antimasking out loud, even they must know how crazy they sound.
Anonymous wrote:I have been for the current mask mandates. Once children 5 and above are able to get vaccinated, I think an 80% vaccination rate threshold to get rid of mask mandate is a reasonable one. I have a 5 year old and a 7 year old and both are starting to get sick of wearing masks all day. I would not be comfortable with them removing their masks until they, and the majority of their classmates are vaccinated .

FCPS does not require masks outsideAnonymous wrote:My preschooler is really struggling with having to wear a mask outdoors during recess. This article states: “The mask requirement doesn't apply when students and staff are eating, drinking or when they're taking "mask breaks," which may occur throughout the day. Those breaks are encouraged for when students are outdoors, like at recess, or when windows are open.”
Is there anything in VA that encourages taking masks off outdoors? This requirement is causing a lot of strife for my kid. My preschool is hung up on not being able to distance outside so must wear masks. Ugh!!!!!
