I thought it was his at first. How does he think he can get away with having HER van without her and not say what happened?!

I don’t know, seems unlikely that someone would take off cross country if they could just report it as an accidental fall at the time.

We need something better than the police for these mental health calls.

They just had a press conference those posted on facebook. Less than 14 minutes long. I didn't learn any new revealing information.
I haven’t been following that closely, but the discussion around them both having untreated mental health issues, a fight that police investigated as a possible domestic assault after which she was manic and they were told to separate —- those seem like crazy facts to me.
From the article:
Police in Moab, Utah, confirmed on Wednesday that their officers responded to an incident involving the two on August 12. According to a police report, officers responded to a reported domestic assault but concluded there were no significant injuries reported and it was more accurately categorized as a "mental health break" than a domestic assault.
Police say Petito was "crying uncontrollably." Laundrie told police they got in an argument, Petito thought he was going to leave her without a ride and went to slap him.
The report says, "Brian explained he and Gabrielle have been traveling together for the last four or five months. That time spent created emotional strain between them and increased the number of arguments. After arguing - 'Gabrielle had gone into a manic state.'"
Laundrie allegedly told police he and Petito both suffered from a mental condition and that neither take medication. Police determined the altercation did not rise to the level of domestic assault, and Laundrie and Petito were told to separate for the night, the report said. Laundrie was given a hotel room.

Np. If this "triggers" you too much than I suggest you skip. You remind me of someone saying " all lives matter" when responding to " Black lives matter"

But again, no body, no crime. Even if the police do find blood in the van, which it kind of sounds like they may have, you have these documented incidents of fighting that can be used to explain the blood.
Until a body is found, I believe the scum will remain free and silent.

this. If they split, she should be the one driving it home not him. He killed her, hopefully he get tried and convicted, but even if he doesn't his name is all over the internet so his future is already over

He's exercising the full extent of his rights. The police will need to do all the work to build a case and that's really hard to do without a body.
There is no requirement to ever talk to the police, the FBI, Congress, etc. The only time you have to talk is when compelled by the courts. And even then, you can claim the 5th Amendment or simply answer "I do not recall."
Watch some of the videos of Donald Trump in legal depositions. He's actually really smart and a master at not providing any information to opposing attorneys. He pretty much always answers "I do not recall" to any question that may open himself to liability or other lines of questioning. If you stonewall at every turn, you can very likely get away with whatever you did.
Is it a d-bag move? Yes, but the smartest thing you can do as a person of interest.
Well, that and pray the police find no biological evidence in the van. But again, no body, no crime. Even if the police do find blood in the van, which it kind of sounds like they may have, you have these documented incidents of fighting that can be used to explain the blood.

That's not what happened with Suzanne Morphew's husband or Jennifer Dulos' husband. Neither a body or hint of a body has been found in either case. Although in the former's case they found a hotel room absolutely covered in bleach. I think in the later they found some blood in her garage.
But both are/were on trial for murder of their spouses/ex-spouse.
Those cases had an abundance of circumstantial and forensic evidence. In the Dulos case, there are materials (rags, clothes) with large quantities of the victim's blood and tissue.
