It should be no surprise that STA is accepting these boys. MD families tend to be more hard core religious, but the boys have more in common than differences. They are by and large bright, very athletic focused, polite, and committed to doing good. What is surprising to me is that so many MD boys are applying to STA, rather than the more traditional placement at Prep, Gonzaga and STJ. I wonder if the chatter on the other thread about STA aggressively looking for athletes is true. Regardless, if this is a true trend, there will be some very unhappy families at the aforementioned schools, feeling a sense of betrayal. Maybe not the right word, but will definitely be some hurt feelings.

1 4th grader and 3 or 4 8th graders from Mater Dei are very small numbers. Not much of a trend.

But they are bigger numbers than have traditionally applied to STA from MD which is has usually been "0".

If you really want your son to go to STA, you have to go to Beauvoir. No question. Getting in from anywhere else is tough.

St. Pats has one or two leave for a single sex in those early years but it's definitely not a given that boys or even a boy singlular goes to STA in 4th. That's not "common". It is common that several go in 7th.

A good number of St. Pats and NPS boys joined the 7th grade this year...that's probably a more natural transition time for those schools than 4th.

This will explain where there are fewer or no students from the usual schools- St. Pats, etc.

So many boys applying from many different schools. It makes sense that here will be years that certain schools don't have anyone admitted. The only feeder is Beauvoir.

Agree, the only true feeder is Beauvoir. But St Pats, NPS, and a public like Key or Horace Mann are usually on the list. They might not feed, per se, but they are pretty good springboards to STA.

Yes true but even last year's C form class had zero St. Pat's families. St. Pats is not a feeder to STA and many applicants apply from all over.

St Pats.

No, not a single St. Pats boy was admitted into fourth at STA in the rising C Form grade or in the rising A form grade.

No St. Pats boys are in the class for C form for next year and there were none in last year's C form class.

Holy guacamole. That is quite a dramatic reversal from years' past. Of course, that was with the old AD who had kids at ST Pats. Where is the new AD's kids? That'll be the next feeder school!

I don't think that is it necessarily. I think it had a lot to do with a lot of great boys and great families applying from all over the area and boys are admitted from Virginia, Public, Maryland, Etc... The only true feeder is Beauvoir.
