My grandfathering do you mean letting August to December birthday kids stay on their current team and not give them the option to play with kids in their grade? Thereby preventing kids with January to August birthdays from potentially getting bumped off of teams by kids who are older than them? What if kids with August to December birthdays want to play on a team with kids in their grade? I don’t see how you can tell them they aren’t allowed to do that. But if they are good that is going to cause some kids to get bumped off their existing teams.

I don’t see how you avoid a scenario where kids with January to August birthdays don’t get bumped off teams by some older August to December birthday kids, or don’t make a higher level team that they might’ve made without the age group change, causing them to become one of the youngest. It’s definitely going to cause some kids to leave the sport, especially if they are around U13 or so.

I posted this as a joke. I know there are people at my local club pushing this.

Wins and losses will tell the story of clubs who play games.

If a team is remaining in USYS, grandfathering everyone probably won't be a big deal at all. In that case, they'll probably be happy just to have enough players to have a team.

That’s assuming the Q3/4 want to stay together.

Wont happen. Small clubs, maybe. Big ones? No shot.

And by maybe, I mean smaller clubs will try to keep teams together while playing up, and then focus on the younger teams to get in line with the actual age change.

I could see this taking place as it would mean less turnover in overall numbers from players leaving. Hard to do at larger clubs, especially those with national platforms.

Clubs certainly have a balancing act ... If not done right, they'll be losing lots of existing players, especially at older ages not on top teams, who decide new teams/age ranges aren't worth playing anymore.

Ask to practice with the younger group before tryout and 3/4 months before the playoff? What will be the impact on the existing team's chemistry if a lot of Q3/Q4s show up and you are among the players on the chopping board?

I think most clubs would be wise to change up coaches across the broard to give them some cover when picking the new squad.
