The new western school =
1000 kids from Westfield (McNair, Coates, and most Floris) +
350 Chantilly (Oak Hill kids) +
370-400 SLHS (Fox Mill/Floris) or Oakton (Crossfield)
The demographics would be similar to that of Chantilly high in my opinion.
Has it been settled yet if any grades allowed to opt-out of going to new school? Can about to be seniors class of 2027 stay at school they are at now? Anyone else allowed to stay either because of their year in school now or because have siblings already in current school?
Three years - current 6th, 7th, and 8th will be able to opt out.

If you evaluate the new school based on building only, sure! If you evaluate the new school based on diversity, it will be as good as Herndon.
This new school will have the same population as Carson MS minus the AAP kids from Waples and Navy. Everyone goes on and on about how Carson is the best middle school in the County. Why would the Western High not be just as good? The AAP kids from Waples and Navy are just a tiny portion of the kids at Carson, they are definitely not the best and the brightest there by any stretch.
Dp. Minus those Navy/Waples AAP kids, and also minus either Fox Mill or Crossfield, and all of the students at Carson who end up at TJ.
Not sure how much of a difference that will make, but it's not the same population...
How many is this, honestly? An how much overlap is there with the Navy kids? Also the kids from Floris that go to Fox Mill + the kids from Oak Hill are all from high achieving families.
Oak hill are all from high achieving families.
From PP, The AAP kids from Waples and Navy are just a tiny portion of the kids at Carson, they are definitely not the best and the brightest there by any stretch
I am reasonably certain that many of the top kids in Mathcounts are from Navy. I believe the same is true for Science Olympiad. A lot of the kids from those two activities go to Oakton or TJ. Not saying that dictates anything but that the kids who seem to be most interested in, or at least participate in, the STEM competitive clubs seem to come from Navy. I don’t know everyone, just going off of what the few kids I know who participate have said.

You're forgetting the AAP kids at Carson from Lees Corner, in addition to those from Navy and Waples Mill, and it's unlikely the future boundaries of Western, once set, will include all of Coates, Floris, McNair, Oak Hill, Fox Mill, and Crossfield. They will likely include all of Coates and McNair, but on the other hand it's unlikely both Fox Mill and Crossfield will end up there.
It will be a perfectly fine school but down the road it's probably going to resemble Fairfax or Centreville in demographics more than Oakton or Chantilly. And that's OK, unless you decide it's not, in which case you'll have to deal with that if you're in the boundary.
Demographics will be similar to Carson. Oak Hill will replace Crossfield if Crossfield is not in boundary. If Fox Mill is not in boundary Oak Hill will replace Fox Mill.
So, demographics should be same as Carson--except for TJ kids.
This is simply wrong. Lots of Carson AAP kids won’t be at either Western or TJ.
The demographics will be just fine. Why do you want them not to be? Likely very similar to Chantilly.
Look up thread. I specifically said the demographics will be “fine.” Based on my assessment of the demographics and likely feeders, however, I don’t think they’ll mirror either Carson or Chantilly once there are fixed boundaries. I think Western will look more like Centreville or Fairfax.
And this is why Crossfield families want to stay at Oakton. That said, if it has an Aviation and/or AI academy-style program, how many kids that would otherwise have gone to TJ from Western Fairfax will go to Western instead?
Very few, if any. The point of TJ isn't a STEM based curriculum. The point is a STEM based curriculum with advanced students. The peer group is the draw, and that's achieved through a competitive application process, not by offering an AI or aviation focus.
I bet a lot of kids who don't get into TJ from this area may be interested, however.

I wouldn’t expect a lot of TJ-eligible kids opting for Western rather than TJ. Chantilly has a STEM academy but is still one of the four pyramids sending the most kids to TJ, along with McLean, Oakton, and Langley.
Agree. Also Poplar tree ES send the most kids to TJ within Chantilly pyramid.
