I doubt there will be big changes immediately. Among other things, there is a great deal of self-selection given the specific attributes of the school (all-boys, Episcopal with chapel). And of the "profile" of any given graduating class is significantly influenced by the students and families already at Beauvoir. It's less than 50% of the eventual graduating class but something like 80% of an incoming fourth grade class, right?

I don't know why people keep trying to crank out these outdated stereotypes from the 1950's. DS has been at Saint Albans for several years ( admitted by current AD) . Admitted right along with him were people of Hindu, Jewish , Agnostic and Catholic beliefs. I am sure even a few Atheists " squeeked through". None fit a " self selecting profile" you often find on here such as " sporty boy wearing Vineyard Vines must go to X school" . The only thing this vast array of boys had in common is there are pretty smart and willing to work hard.

I think you are misunderstanding PP's post. She is saying that not everyone wants to send there boys to a single sex Episcopal (and it is an element of the school) school. You disagree with that? And by profile she meant percentage from Beauvoir. Go back and read her post. I have no idea where you got your response.

As for the "vast array" of boys, really? I have one child at NCS and one at another school and I can tell you that while there is some racial and religious diversity at the Cathedral school, they are in no way a vast array. First of all, they are almost all wealthy and second of all they do not reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of this city. And there are far, far more Vineyard Vines families at the Cathedral schools than at other schools.

That Vineyard Vines reference was made with such disdain. I can feel the spittle flowing off the screen.

At least 2 possible changes with a new AD:

1) Treat Beauvoir as less of an automatic feed;

2) More lacrosse recruits. Hart was the soccer coach. Perhaps not coincidentally, the program was a winner. The incoming AD played lacrosse at Yale, and is one of the current STA varsity coaches. The program is on the upswing with great coaching and a growing pool of developing talent, but could use some unabashed recruiting to be able to truly compete at the IAC level, generally considered to be the most competitive high school lacrosse conference in the nation.

Let's see what happens to the soccer team. The AD was the varsity coach.

Whoa, Nellie! Calm down there. STA itself would be the first to tell you that not every family wants all-boys' education, and that some families are also set on secular education or at least education without, for example, a Christian chapel program and some religious coursework. There is indeed self-selection. To the extent your larger point is that people should not just dismiss STA based on those two characteristics, and that it is a highly inclusive place? Agree with that.

The current AD is a great credit to the school. A decent, honest and caring human being who is adored by the boys and deeply respected by his colleagues.

Class act all around.

I had the pleasure of dealing with the STA Admissions Office through two different cycles, and found them always courteous, professional, responsive, patient and helpful. That office represented the school very well. The departing AD did an excellent job shepherding applicant families, in my opinion, and established a good precedent for the new director. Much future success Mr. Roper, you will be missed.

My guess is increased emphasis on sports recruitment.

And I for one disagree -- thought they were warm, informative, and professional. 1-1 tie.

From the other STA thread:

Mr. Roper is leaving; the new admissions director is Tyler Casertano, I believe.

Yes, that's accurate. Hart Roper has been fantastic and will be a big loss -- what a kind, honest, inspiring person to have in that role. BUT happily for STA the incoming AD will be terrific. Current STA Upper School History Teacher and Assistant Head of Admissions for the Upper School. He's a Yale grad, Master's from Columbia's well-known independent school leadership program, admissions experience at STA, has coached three sports at STA, has taught in STA's co-ed summer public policy program, and is incredibly well respected within the STA community by students, parents, faculty. Grew up in the boarding school world (family is in education) so he'll understand that piece too. I'm sure by the time he's 40 he'll be a successful Head of School somewhere so good move by STA to hire him for this position.

Sounds like they haven't announced yet where Mr. Roper is going.

I did not hear that Mr. Hart Roper is leaving. If that is the case, does anyone know what he is moving on to, and where? I wish him the best in his future, he is a very good AD, and always very professional. Who is the new Admissions Director?
