Did any neighborhoods get moved in scenario 4 from a strong high school to a weak one?

Does anyone know what’s going on with the meeting tonight? Did they add McLean and Madison to the Falls Church/Marshall meeting? I just got an updated link calling it a Madison meeting (hosted at FCHS)

The Westbriar island should move to Colvin Run-Cooper-Langley. Period. It’s ridiculous to have such an isolated island.

bussed by or not sunrise valley is a bit closer and hughes SL is a lot closer than cooper langley. so if they don’t what to be an island they can switch that way.

It's always interesting to see when distance does and doesn't matter for the Cooper-Langley gatekeepers.

they were offered to not be an island and join wolf trap and they didn’t want it

Apparently not but it's kind of moot because as PP noted the Wolftrap folks who would have had to move to Westbriar to open space for the island to move to Wolftrap didn't want that, and it's disappeared from Scenario 4 with other changes. So now what used to be a Westbriar island is now a Westbriar-Kilmer-Marshall island, and it still needs to be fixed.

1. Region 5 BRAC burned a ton of capital trying to advocate for a Region 1 move as part of their attempt to go to Cooper/Langley. They made lots of instant enemies that way, and caused enough of an issue that Robyn Lady pushed back against it in a public post.

2. As part of scenario 3, Thru fixed the attendance island, but it sounds like there was pushback to their solution. I just don’t think anyone has a lot of sympathy for you if you are rejecting the fixes that are being proposed.

I don’t really care about where you end up, but you seem to think you are owed a certain pyramid that isn’t even your current one.

The solution Thru provided was to move other people’s kids (Wolftrap’s Four Corners) to make room for the island. Wolftrap advocated for their community and pushed back on the recommendation. You can see it in the notes for Region 1, Priority 7.

The Oak Hill kids would be AAP, but that seems a very low percentage to me. I THINK Lee's Corner AAP also goes to Carson? Of course, some would end up at TJ, too.

But, I think that would only be 4 kids to Chantilly--so it must not include AAP. I know there are a whole lot more than that.

So, those percentages must exclude AAP from Franklin.

One thing for sure: those claiming this would reduce Westfield by 1000 are wrong.

It was the withdrawn recommendation to move part of Langley to Herndon that caused the consternation, not the idea of moving the Westbriar attendance island to the Langley pyramid. There was a specific Region 5 request that Thru model moving the island to the Langley pyramid.

Plenty of people have pushed back throughout the entire process against proposed fixes that they found unsatisfactory. That's why there's a Scenario 4 to replace Scenario 3.

It's not a question about what is owed to anyone, just what makes sense for an area that is closer to Colvin Run than any other elementary school and has had kids bused past Colvin Run for years on their way to Westbriar.

You seem to want to gatekeep, and one suspects for all the usual reasons.

I have a proposal that I think makes more sense than what's in Scenario 4:

1. Move the Timber Lane island north of 29 from McLean to Marshall.

2. Do not reassign the Spring Hill island from McLean to Langley; rather, bridge the island by reassigning the area bounded by 495, the DTR, and Route 123 from Marshall to McLean.

3. Reassign the Westbriar island to Colvin Run - Cooper - Langley.

No more attendance islands in that part of the county and fewer kids moving into Langley than would be the case if the Spring Hill island was reassigned.

That adds to Kilmer/Marshall. The Westbriar island is 103(E)/30(MS)60(HS) while the Timber Lane island is 355(E)/100(MS)/200(HS)

If that was an issue, they could scrap the proposal to move part of Madison to Marshall. That was intended to eliminate a split feeder at Westbriar, but the area in question includes part of the Town of Vienna and the TOV is used to everyone in the town attending Madison.

I'd be shocked if Fox Mill's included. If it is, they would have to backfill with another ES - expanding the impacted communities - and undoing enough of the SLHS redistricting to put it back on the road to Lewis' status.

Exactly, if they pull all of Floris and Fox Mill out of SLHS, and down the road close the Herndon to SLHS IB transfers, then SLHS will start looking like what it sounds like is happening at Lewis. SLHS falling back into what it was before the 2008 changes. I think Coates, McNair, Oak Hill, and the majority of Floris are a shoo-in for KAA, but how the rest is filled is where the battle and consternation will be (Remainder of Floris, Fox Mill, Crossfield).

Look at boundary maps for Colvin Run, the entire Route 7 strip, Hunter Mill Rd. Thru moved a paltry number of Westbriar Island to Colvin Run where the residential access road is Route 7. The rest of it is a large island. Then find Sunrise Valley, feeds to Hughes /South Lakes.

One of the 3 C's at Colvin Run shares an access road with a newer and more expensive dev that was sent to Forest Edge. Road network leads to Hunter Mill and Route 7. Fact is SLHS could pick up students from Marshall and Langley. Oakton ES is a split? Could get some from there and Madison?

I have a proposal that I think makes more sense than what's in Scenario 4:

1. Move the Timber Lane island north of 29 from McLean to Marshall.

2. Do not reassign the Spring Hill island from McLean to Langley; rather, bridge the island by reassigning the area bounded by 495, the DTR, and Route 123 from Marshall to McLean.

3. Reassign the Westbriar island to Colvin Run - Cooper - Langley.

No more attendance islands in that part of the county and fewer kids moving into Langley than would be the case if the Spring Hill island was reassigned.

That adds to Kilmer/Marshall. The Westbriar island is 103(E)/30(MS)60(HS) while the Timber Lane island is 355(E)/100(MS)/200(HS)

That must exclude AAP or the percentages do not add up. Either that or they are excluding the AAP from Franklin.

There are over 280 attending from Franklin. I assume that is half 7 and half 8th grade. That be a split between Navy and Oak Hill and Lee's Corner AAP from Franklin. Oak Hill has a LOT of kids in AAP.

The Oak Hill kids would be AAP, but that seems a very low percentage to me. I THINK Lee's Corner AAP also goes to Carson? Of course, some would end up at TJ, too.

But, I think that would only be 4 kids to Chantilly--so it must not include AAP. I know there are a whole lot more than that.

So, those percentages must exclude AAP from Franklin.

One thing for sure: those claiming this would reduce Westfield by 1000 are wrong.

Why? Carson is 1600. Don't you think Westfield kids at Carson are at least 500? Or maybe you just don't understand math.

The Westbriar island should move to Colvin Run-Cooper-Langley. Period. It’s ridiculous to have such an isolated island.

If that means some of Great Falls needs to move from Langley to Herndon, so be it.

The Westbriar island is actually closest to SLHS. The neighborhoods are mostly made up of terminal roads that branch off of Belulah and Browns Mill, so while it’s physically close to Colvin Run, transportation savings could be negligible. Either solution would make a lot more sense than the current proposal.

So they can send those students to sunrise elementary and south lakes high

These families haven't seen their kids bused past Sunrise Valley for years on their way to Westbriar, just Colvin Run.

Region 5 specifically asked Thru to model moving the island to Colvin Run, Cooper, and Langley. Did that even happen? Leaving it as a stranded Westbriar-Kilmer-Marshall island is absurd.
