The latest version was a bit self aggrandizing. She could have been harmed by someone that guy has no knowledge of, it’s possible. Or by him. Time may tell.

Almost drowning tends to sober people up more rapidly, near death tends to dump adrenaline. It has actually been studied. Near death would be unlikely to cause her to re-enter the water by herself, in the dark, when he had exited it. There was some moonlight, but not a full moon.

His lack of concern for her in raising the alarm, or even doing so when friend told him she had not returned are big red flags. He said she was at the shore, heroically, in front of him. So where is she?

So much of the stories don’t really add up. But there could be huge missing pieces unknown to him.

The family may do well to spread a bit of cash around, might loosen the tongues of locals and staff. Or not, there is a large criminal element, talking could be dangerous. DR runs on the uneasy mix of tourism and crime/drugs.
