The potty training threads are full of posters whose primary goal seems to be shaming parents (and their kids!) about potty training. It is bizarre. Maybe it’s just one or two posters, but if so, they have turned it into a part-time job. We are struggling with potty training but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that DCUM is not a useful resource for it because the discourse is so mean and judgmental.


Yes! I’ve posted about my 4 yo daughter having infrequent accidents and I hear “well, she’s not potty trained. You need to start over.” Yes, she is, turns out she was just super constipated.

Well, there is one going on and on about me criticizing her couscous, being overweight, and unhealthy for feeding kids ribs...She is on her millionth post repeat there on that thread, insisting I must be 116kg. I never criticized her couscous, but she is still ranting days after I stopped posting anything on that thread.

In their defense (and mine), many people learn to mask their issues through therapy in childhood. I believe my husband learned replacing behaviors for what is now clearly ASD, but the stressors of adulthood are too much for him to sustain it. He definitely was a different adult in his 30s and 40s than he was 20-something when we met and married. It does happen.

This is a little pet peeve, but what bugs me even worse than that is the ones who add "global" pandemic. Is there any other kind of pandemic? Also, I wish that one poster would stop saying "play stupid games, win stupid prizes." It's just not that clever.

My favorite is when someone literally wants you to plan their vacation or build their wardrobe, with lots of personal parameters and details, then says "go."

Asking for recommendations is one thing. Asking for tailor-made planning is quite another.
