Does this make sense? Why would Iran attack US in the last days of Trump's presidency?
Or is Trump planning something nefarious?
And if so, why would the military go along with it?
I think it's routine. I tend to trust the military leaders to be sane and rational and to understand threats.

No. We won’t. The military will support and defend the constitution. Every Military Officer I know despises Trump. Even the hard core Republicans. If there is a coup attempt, the National Guard will quickly squash it.
Frankly this. I am ready to believe anything about Trump and Republicans, but I am positive the military is counting the days Trump is gone even more anxiously than us. you may find some nutjobs like Flynn (who, BTW, had no problem betraying the country by getting secretly paid by Turkey while being the NSA) but there are bad apples everywhere. the idea that the US military would support a coup d'etat to reverse the result of presidential elections in the US is nuts. the fact that we are even discussing this shows how deep is the damage that Trump did to the country. plus the GOP knows Trump lost and while guys like Jordan are happy to entertain the loss deniers on Fox or Newsmax, hoping to benefit from the support Trump has among GOP voters, they are cowards and not stupid enough to be at the forefront of a military coup.
Agree. My husband and I are both retired military officers. We both cannot stand Trump. His treatment of McCain was absolutely horrible. His treatment of gold star families is inexcusable.
Yes, some in the military like him. But many don’t.
I also agree about the damage done. It’s going to be hard to recover from this huge distrust between left and right.
Please thank your spouses for their dedication to the Constitution. It’s military leaders who have kept me sane these past four years, because they’ve put their love of country and the Constitution before politics.

If he takes out some Iranian reactors, there would be a lot of posturing, but in the end Biden would come in and offer to renormalize relations, and the Iranians would take the offer. Everyone would blame Trump and the nuclear deal would get re-ratified just like everyone is expecting anyway, but with Iran further behind.
Plus this is one more chance to whip the stock market down and then back up.
