My child has a double name, after two women (not my mother) who essentially raised me. It was my way of honoring their memory. I didn't mean for it to be pretentious, but I think some people view it as such.


I’m from the Deep South. Most people - especially girls - have double names. It’s not pretentious. I’m Anna Beth (Anna Elizabeth). No one calls me just Anna. In what world could that name possibly be pretentious? My kids have double names as well.
