Why do you LOL?! My grandparents survived the Great Depression and then had siblings go on to fight and die for our country in WWII, so, there’s no way will allow a virus to change me or my outlook on life.

I feel like this is sort of a test for many Americans to see how well we are able to adapt and thrive while dealing with uncertainty and adversity. My 8th grader is majorly struggling with the change of life and , much like the parents in this forum, want to go back to school in person, see all her friends, play her sports and continue life as normal. I have her watch some of the news so that I will not be the blame. She gets it but really does not care. My 4 yo get´ it perfectly well. She will explain what we have to do differently and why, will tell children who come by that we are social distancing, and wears her mask valiantly. I am astonished that my 4 yo is world´s more together than my teen. She even did her zooms with gusto and will practice writing her letters and words and read with someone nearby. The teen on the other hand, hates getting up, and is like pulling teeth to get her to get started. Be open OP, and see how you can involve her in the changes in her life.

acknowledge feelings, acknowledge feelings, acknowledge feelings. kids need to learn how to deal with these and become emotionally intelligent. part of the reason we are in this mess is that many (upper middle class) Americans are poorly equipped to deal with adversity and we try to titanic and/or "be positive" our way out of it. acknowledge feelings, give kids the tools to deal with their feelings, and then reflect.
