We have a second home and while it is actually pretty modest these days it looks pretty awesome. When we bought it, the place looked like a shack and we were worried a strong wind would pitch it over. We picked it up for a song 20 years ago and then put a lot of sweat equity into it. Now people look at it and whistle. They should have seen it 20 years ago. If you really want a second home it is possible. Just reset your expectations and be creative.

Seriously? My FIL has two and my mom has one. They’re not that expensive depending on the location.
