My family loves Hatteras Island. So many great outdoor activities, great sunsets, quiet, and so relaxing.

Hands Down- Amalfi Coast in Italy- so disappointing. Waaay too much hype for what you get. Rocky beaches, windy roads you can't walk to from town to town, the crowds.
There are some stands outs--like Ravello--but the rest I could do without. What a waste of money.

I live about 90 miles from Niagara Falls NY and get there every once in awhile, usually just traveling through to Canada.
Although the Falls itself is spectacular, the city is a huge disappointment. It’s old and dirty.
Niagara Falls Canada, however, is very beautiful, albeit very touristy. Much better view of the Falls as well on the Canadian side.
The view from Canada is better because you're not looking at the Canadian side and all the gaudy high rise hotels. I don't know why people are so negative about the U.S. side? It's a nice park with a lot of great vantage points.
Because the US, specifically New York State, refuses to recognize that the city of Niagara Falls should be treated like a wonder of the world. Instead it’s mostly a slum. Yeah, the park itself is ok, but the rest of the area is crap. It’s a crime.

I can understand going to Rome on vacation, but why would anyone think that Geneva was a vacation destination unless you’re there for the motor show or maybe a work conference. There are much better places to go in Switzerland.
It was a jump off point for travel around Switzerland. Was in the city for 36 hours and it was a really big let down. Basel, Zurich, and Bern are much nicer to visit and a lot prettier than Geneva.
I love Geneva!!!!! I have family that lives there and would spend many summers there as a child. Great food, culture, surrounding hikes/mountains, beautiful lake, medieval towns, very international, etc...

I also didn't like Rome. But at that point, I had never lived in a big city before. I think I would appreciate it more now.

Honestly, I don't see most posts like that. I have a post in here, I own that I'm lucky to be able to have gone, but I said it didn't reflect the hype and/or popular descriptions of the place. You can enjoy yourself and find positive, a lot of positive, in all your travels but you can also find they they didn't match up to the expectations you had or the general "idea" of what the place is portrayed as.
I realize that I also am kind of like you and that I tend to look more for the positive in things/people, so maybe I'm rose colored glasses on this thread too!But I still see far fewer whining/complaining folks than just those with different expectations.
