Sounds like you come from a very dysfunctional family. I bet the ones that cut off contact could care less if they received an inheritance...and those who got an inheritance sold themselves out to get it.

These are often the greediest and grabbiest folks.

PP here. We are a very close-knit family. My parents are immigrants who came to the US in the 60's with not a dime in their pockets - literally not a dime. Together they built a successful business and taught us the value of money, and family. Have we had periods of dysfunction over the years? yes. But in the end we always came together because blood is thicker than water and family is all that matters. My dad passed a month ago, and I do wish that my mom would spend down some of the fortune they've built but she won't. it's just not her nature. She does "give" a lot of her/their money away to various charities, which is totally okay with me.

My parents were also immigrants who arrived with $20ish in their pockets and received no inheritance. There was a house but the y gave it to a relative who remained in their home country. My IL s did not share that info with dh but they prob didn't inherit much.

We expect nothing from them but again they refuse to talk to us abou t their estate. My parents will leave us enough too find ou r kids education.

We are in the same boat as you with my parents in their late 60’s and assets I have to guess in the $20+ million range. They have two homes worth about $6 million in total with no debt and I know that the homes are not a high percent of their assets so the $20 is a guess. They never inherited anything and we are good savers plus they are already very generous with us so I’d love for them to spend it on themselves and give it away to people who really need it.

My parents are in their early 70s and have told us recently that they have about $5 million in assets. They are in good health and I hope they live a long time and spend every penny they worked hard for, whenever they pass my sister and I will each get half. I’m planning and hoping for zero and a lot of time with my folks.

My mom got a few thousand from her parents and MIL got probably 50k from hers. We aren’t counting on inheriting anything but will probably see anywhere from $500k to a few million when we’re in our 70s.

Neither my parents nor DH's received one. We won't from mine (just crossing my fingers there isn't a bill), and will get some from DH's, but that number could range from a few hundred thousand to a few million.

We're not planning on receiving anything and should be able to pass along a few million to DD.

My parents didn't get an inheritance. Not sure, but I think we'll get a few hundred thousand from DH's parents and anywhere from zero to a few million from mine. Hoping they all live long enough to spend it all themselves.

No, my parents didn't receive an inheritance, and I can't imagine that I'll receive anything either. I'm just crossing my fingers that I don't have to support my parents someday, as my father just declared bankruptcy a few weeks ago.
