Read the previous post. A Quaker school exists to educate Quaker children. That's not Sidwell.

Sidwell under the leadership of the current head exists to educate wealthy or well-connected liberals with a few token normal people thrown in. Quakerism is about simplicity, humility, seeing God in everyone.

Sidwell has wandered far from its original mission.

Because there are so many Quakers still around.

Exactly. Most folks don’t even realize there was a Quaker religion.

Then Sidwell should drop the pretension. But then they would lose their tax status. Hmmm...

First, they are not going to "drop" being a Quaker school. And even if they did, they could still be a non-profit, or is GDS not tax-exempt?

Why keep pretending though?

I don’t know why people say they pretend. The Quakerism is actually pretty heavy handed, at least compared to a secular school or even an episcopal school. I think people ignore it bc either they won’t respect it as a real religion, or they minimize it so they can justify going to a religious school for prestige reasons while telling themselves it’s not really religious, or they didn’t get in so they hate on the school.

I know a lot of families who aren’t picking schools solely on perceived prestige who found sidwell very Quaker—too much so for their families. That’s not to say anything negative about Quakerism. The point is, it’s very much there, and the people who say otherwise fall into the categories above.

By that definition, Sidwell is not a Quaker school.

Being Quaker is not that important compared to grades and test scores.

I'm not PP, but why do rules exist if they're going to be mocked and not enforced?

There’s always a way around a rule. The coach can call student coach. In return that coach as player to reach out. Coach goes to Middle School and drops his contact info with Athletic Director. This isn’t new!!!!’
