NP. I am all about her being Ariel but don't understand willfully acting like you don't know what PP is talking about. Her eyes are set apart much farther than the average human's. It gives her a unique look. One kind of appropriately aquatic honestly. She's a pretty girl, but her facial structure is unique. Which is probably a part of why she is a celebrity as 'uniquely attractive' is a good thing to have on your resume.

Dp. I’m black as well and she looks similar to black girls I know bc of her style and hair. Her facial features do not resemble the black girls I know. It’s very clear her eyes are set wide apart and that’s what everyone is clearly stating. It adds to her features to some ppl and hinders her features to others. To say that you cannot see that is being willfully blind so you can win an argument. And actually her nose is a European feature more than a black feature. I’m for her being Ariel and I’ll support a black woman in the role but I’m still not blind.


What's the difference between a European nose and a black feature?

You guys. The Disney version of The Little Mermaid (both story and title character) are radically different from the original, too. Stories change and evolve.

The difference between Halle Baily and the Disney version of the Little Mermaid title character is tiny compared with the difference between the original story's title character and Disney's Ariel.

Im not sure strange is the right word as strange conveys a negative connotation. I think it's more that she has a facial structure that I don't feel I encounter much IRL or on screen. Specifically the way her eyes are set farther away from her nose. Which isn't saying she's ugly just that she's unique looking.

Take those photos, most have the inner eye meet the top of the nose. Or at least come very close.

Halles eyes are set farther away from her nose and has a wider face to begin with doo the effect is exacerbated. You can see how this makeup mitigates the effect:

I love her! She is wonderful. I don’t think she fits Ariel though

Maybe I'm crazy but if she's attractive but still looks a little strange wouldn't that be an advantage of sorts?
I mean she's not playing fashion model, you know that right? She's playing a mermaid and from what I understand they're not human so aside from having no legs maybe looking a little strange would add to the "authenticity" of her being what is for all intents and purposes a strange sea creature.

There are multiple ppl on this thread FYI. I very clearly responded to someone else who doesn’t find her cute either. I clearly said I’m the poster who said everyone questioning the choice needs to read the link posted. I never questioned the choice bc I’m not in the business of making movies. Not everyone has to think she’s cute just bc you do. However, finding her not cute doesn’t mean she deserves to be treated like trash. I’ll support her as Ariel.
