Is sporting global going to be able to survive this shutdown? Seems like a $3k+ travel/rec program might be the first to be in trouble in this kind of economic environment.

If they were inside the beltway they would draw a lot more attention. The coach Alba is an insane baller. I have not seen a coach at her level anywhere around the DMV. The interesting thing about their coaches is most were not defenders. It seems like every coach is a former defender.

Growing pains....The turnover is high and the talent pool is poor. The Virginia club has great coaching, probably the best in the area but when you have 10 year olds that can't run more than 10 ft without getting gassed, you won't have a competitive team.

The internal games are crap too. they took too long to join leagues.

Why are there still posts about Nashville here? Guess what? It's a function of the players. Barca NY and Barca Arizona are thriving. Sorry about your luck, but this sent the place to talk about it.

Is the player talent pool weak?

Taking a position on a reserves team is a gateway onto the first team. That's how soccer works. Jonathon Amos took a position on U19 for FC Nordsjælland initially and was then later on moved up through the ranks onto their first team.

Fair question?

Yes and two were signed overseas. It was a small group of kids that graduated last year. Their upper age groups are small, often 1 team.

Who are they ? where are they playing in college and who were the others and where overseas are they playing?

I honestly don't remember their names, but last year at the end of the year, they had a closing ceremony and listed the players' names and colleges and the two player's names and the pro club they signed with. I think if you contact Barca directly, they can give you the particulars. And they have a program called Next Level that has staff just focused on that. I've been talking to them about my son, and they have helped connect us with some good universities. I'm confident my son will get recruited because of help from Barca.

The two players, who were mentioned at the closing ceremony, got a tryout with Europa FC, a Gibraltar team, but I don't believe they were signed. At least, I don't see them on the official roster. I presume they did not make it, although both are good players.

What I heard them announce is that they were offered spots, but I think it wasn't the first team. It was like U23 or something like that.

It varies by age group. For example, for the senior team last year, Garnet was their top team and for the 2003 team, Blue was their top team. And so on. Although players often figure that out for themselves, Barca tries not to make it obvious and to keep players from focusing on that.

Really? Why wouldn't you want your players to strive to be on the top team? Thats like saying DC United and Loudoun United are the same. Just train hard with no reward for being better than the rest. doesn't really make sense, Almost promotes non competitiveness . Am I wrong?

Yes, you are wrong. Kids know what the A team is and they know if they are on it. But rosters are Barca can be very fluid depending on the age group. Kids are placed accordingly and the placement isn’t a sentence.

It is run more like a school in many ways. They coach to a curriculum and the curriculum is adapted to the team.

Agree and I also don't remember the player's names, but it was a very nice closing ceremony and send off for the players leaving for college. The entire club and all teams were there. They very actively help with college recruitment and they had quite a few college coaches out at Evergreen last year. We aren't focused on college soccer. Been there, done that. I am much more concerned about education. I also know the odds, $ available (or, more likely, not available), etc.

Full disclosure, that was my interpretation. So if I'm wrong, mea culpa. BUT, having said that, I didn't take it that way at all. I took at as they are saying focus on being the best you can be on this team. And we are developing you where you are at. And as the year goes on, we may move players around on teams, based on their progress and also to give them different positional experiences. I've seen players move between teams and while it can feel good to move up, it can feel bad to move down.

But as I said, players always know. My son does. It didn't take him long to know which team the better players were on.
