Agreed. Also a lot of angry Sidwell defended ranging from circle to smug to offensive.@

The college counselor who is referenced by the family as being discriminatory is AA, by the way.

No, you're talking about the head of college counseling at that time; she wasn't the plaintiff's counselor.

I don’t think URMs are under represented at Sidwell. I had the impression it was a school for black elites in DC. Seriously.

No wonder Tom Farquhar left the school. After his outburst threatening the family, I am surprised he retains a job in ed.

Everyone seems to be ignoring this point, and instead focusing on what a pain in the ass and entitled her family is, and how she was not an URM.

I’m sure that TF was frustrated with the parents. No one has a right to be at an independent school, and clearly the faculty had had it up to here with the parents’ sense of entitlement, litigiousness and unrealistic expectations about college choices for their daughters.

Actually, dealing with that frustration is part of the job description for HOS. Tom was an ass and regularly made impolitic comments about a variety of topics in a variety of settings.

I 100% believe in racially-based bias. It has nothing to do with socio-economic status. I’ve worked at private schools and seen and heard about terrible assumptions, so I know it’s hard to be a PoC in an environment designed to protect white privilege. Definitely hold Sidwell accountable if you think it is a racist institution. But this lawsuit in the wrong hill to die on.

I also read the background section of the petition for cert. This family presents no evidence of racial bias. “Grades were wrong and later corrected” is the sum total. The family suffered no damages, as their daughter graduated high school with a corrected transcript and attended a top-tier university. Meanwhile, the family failed to apply on-time to at least on school and failed to properly release test scores. Nor did they apply to any likely or safety schools.

This lawsuit isn’t getting heard by the Supreme Court and the family knows it. Its only purpose is to smear Sidwell publicly. Congratulations on taking the bait, particularly if you’re calling for WaPo or NYT to cover this “scandal.” While you’re at it, you may want to hire this young woman. If you ever have to fire her for cause, it shouldn’t be a problem.

She is going to face bias because people will see her name associated with this crazy-a$$ lawsuit. Period.

She’s not a URM. He father is a doctor. She was a “lifer” at Sidwell with plenty of advantages. And the the parents got all hissy and entitled when she couldn’t easily use an affirmative action trump card to vault ahead of classmates with similar good, but not outstanding, records.

You don't understand URM from the college's perspective.

So the daughter of a successful doctor from Nigeria should get a leg up to college but not the daughter of a light-pigmented McDonalds worker? Crazy, isn’t it?

Both will get a leg up. And the daughter of a doctor from Nigeria will continue to face bias throughout her life. That’s not something money and education can save you from. Just look at the comments on this thread.

This. Ask me how I know.

If she faces bias, it will be when graduate schools and employers Google her name and read about the meritless lawsuits, and conclude that she’s trouble.

Based on the Supreme Court cert. petition, it appears that the daughter was counting on affirmative action to help boost her fairly average-for-Sidwell record and gain her admission to Harvard and Yale.

Was she a recruited athlete? I missed that part. What was the “national achievement scholarship”?
