It's definitely not BO or sweat.

I can go to the gym, work out pretty hard for 90 minutes, and not smell at all (nor should anyone if you're wearing clean clothes/deodorant). But 5-10min slow stroll outside on a warm day? Instant outdoorsy smell that is relatively pungent.


If you sat still and not in direct sunlight, would you smell it?

Yea! My cat has it sometimes too! I have only smelled it on this one cat and have had many cats.


My cat likes to sleep on our screened porch and she has a distinct smell when she comes back inside. It is more pronounced when it's warm out (I always say she smells sweaty), but I've also noticed it on cooler days.

My kids too, every day they play outside at recess. I guess I always just thought this was sweat.

Have another poster who thinks that that outside smell smells like wet dog. Not pleasant at all. We have a little poodle who we keep very clean. After a walk he just stinks. And I know I stink as well. It gets in my hair. I actually noticed the smell on me if it’s the day between hair washings. My hair is freshly clean that morning, I don’t get the outdoor smell. But the next day when I walk the dog, I get that outdoor smell. It forces me to wash my hair every other day.

I have the same issue. I live in North Florida and can walk to my back yard and back and I smell but can go to Disney and walk for hours and do not have that smell. ???

Def notice this, too. One of the things I’ve done to convince a neighbor of this smell is I took a roll of paper towels outside for a few minutes. I brought them back inside and asked her to smell the paper towels. They carried the scent so strong. It sticks to everything.

I personally have always said that people smell like worms. Like after a good rain. And I get that smell myself. Even directly after showering. And I shower daily. Children I’ve noticed get this smell VERY prominently. It’s soooo strong on children. If my daughter has a couple friends over and they’ve been playing outside (even on like a 75 degree) day the smell will make you gag. I hate to say that but it’s true. And I make her take showers daily.
