When did he say that?
It diesn’t matter what he says.
This is Mitch McTurtle’s shutdown now. He alone has the power to reopen the government, and he is refusing to do so. Those toothless Kentuckians sure will be howling mad when they don’t get their refunds! Maybe someone will explain to them that their elected leader is keeping them Cronin getting their own money. I sure hope that makes them mad enough to turn McTurtle out of office.

He said it earlier today to Schumer and admitted he said it. Would be terrifying if he were worth believing about literally anything.

The thing is, congress and senate would eventually just override him. They don't need him. Even McConnell will face pitchforks from his caucus if this goes on another 2 weeks and he won't put the vote up. A lot of them are up in 2020 and on thin ice already.

Yep. With the news from the IRS about tax refunds, TSA, delayed fed paychecks even after the government reopens, etc., I give it until next Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. At that point, Congress will be forced to act.

Try reading any legitimate news source. Trump said he was open to shutting down the government for years.

+1. Next week. Dems will come up with some smaller amount for "border security" while saying it's not for a wall, Trump will cave, declare victory, and the great unwashed will believe his tweets.

Trump says he will shut down the Government for years. He's legitimately nuts, also known as, unfit for office.

In 2012, Fairfax County Public Schools had 17% ESOL---that was up 1/3 over the year before because of the Unaccompanied Minors.

This year, FCPS has 29% ESOL.

Granted, some of these are a result of legal immigration. But, 29%? Not likely.

Most of these kids are on free lunch, and I would imagine other welfare programs. Certainly, if the kids are here, we must educate and feed them. Churches gather food to send home on weekends. I know because we help with that.

These ESOL programs mean that these kids require more resources than your "average" English speaking kid. Many of them also are in special education which also requires additional resources and money.

This is draining our schools in this area--and our taxes.

But a wall won't solve that problem. 60% of illegal immigration is from visa overstays. Most of those kids came here on a tourist visa and never went home. Or their parents overstayed and gave birth here.

I know the wall makes you feel good, but it's useless. The tunnel right under it. Save the money and implement e-Verify.

We need e-verify, too. But that will not solve the problem of the guys waiting for jobs at 7-11.

And, walls do help. Ask the Border Patrol. Yes, they build tunnels----but tunnels are a lot harder to build that walking in.

As for the kids, many of them came as unaccompanied minors over the border. Why do you think the number went up a third in 2012?

There are thousands that cross the southern border constantly. We need to stop it.

Yeah, way to stop it by closing down the Government so CBP has to work without pay and immigration cases are stuck in federal courts. So. Much. Winning. We should start by prosecuting POTUS for his failure to use e-verify at his properties so he could pay his undocumented cleaning staff lower wages.

People who can’t make mortgage payments and car payments and college tuition payments don’t work without pay indefinitely. He’s got another week, maybe 2, before CPB, air trafffic control, TSA, etc. start quitting.

No big deal. If they walk off the job, the President can send in the military, just like Reagan did with the air traffic controllers. National security must come first!

As usual, a non thinking trumpster. Unlike the STRIKE, this is govt shutdown. So Conman can't legally fire them all. And there are closer to a million people directly affected by teh shutdown. if you count the millions indirectly affected by NO SERVICE or delayed service, then the affected are in millions. And many will call in sick as the TSA employees are doing. The senators will soon pass a bill and dare the conman to veto it. If he vetoes it, he will own the shutdown without any question.

And then teh con man caves and declares victory and makes noise about declaring emergency to con you trumpsters WHEN he doesn't have legal authority to do any such thing.

Who could have possibly predicted that this shutdown would turn into a clusterf*ck?

The longer the shutdown goes, the closer we get to tax refund season and the IRS has already stated that tax refunds will be delayed if the government is still shut down. Tax refund delays will be a huge fail for Republicans and for the economy in general. The R’s won’t want it to get to that point because people will be BIG MAD if their refunds are delayed - plus there will be political pressure from the tax preparing lobby to fix it before that point.

Secret service are definitely working without pay. I assume White House staff are there tending to the adult daycare.

Yup. Asking people to work without pay is not right.
