I get that the Royals and others in the upper classes have lots of young kids in their party instead of adults.
But the tabloids were saying Beatrice would be the Maid of Honor. Why wasn't she wearing a more traditional Maid of Honor dress? Pippa wore a traditional MOH dress, so why not Beatrice?
Not all of them do. Queen Elizabeth had 8 adult bridesmaids.
In this country, a young girl in a wedding party would be called a flower girl, but the British call them bridesmaids. They haves pages too which are the equivalent of ring barers. I think they must have instituted the practice of the kids to manage the crazy long dress trains.
Or it might just be an opportunity to humiliate youngsters:

Harry got his revenge though. His page boys looked like they were in the matrix.
OMG. I can't imagine making kids dress like this. Hideous.
Is there an actual human in that pink dress behind William?

Lots of people wondering that. I THINK Beatrice was instructed to ‘help’ Fergie, her mother, not step out of place this wedding. She was with her the whole time and notice how nervous Fergie was looking. I think there were a lot of rules in place before she could be in the same chapel as Phillip. Namely not interacting with him at all or looking at him.

Which is why I also think Fergie, Beatrice, and Andrew were not pictured waving off Eugenie and Jack in their carriage alongside the Queen.

Fergie, Beatrice, Andrew, and the wedding party waved off Eugenie and Jack as they exited the church, kissed, and got into the carriage - far more personal than just lining up with the rest of the family to wave. I really think some of you are overthinking all of this.

Where is she crying?
I couldn’t even see her face in that blurry video.
