Didn't read the book nor the movie, but here's my guess of the plot:
- rich Asian dude pretended to be poor in a foreign country
- RAD met lady friend, a commoner, who only looked Asian but was anything but
- they dated and went to Singapore for a wedding and met mother
- mother no like gold digger lady friend at first
- then they each did something amazing and liked/respected each other more
- mother still didn't ok the marriage
- dude and lady went back to wherever they were before
- sequel
