I know a D2 coach (men's top 20 team) and they actually give a lot of money to their players with athletic scholarships plus random "merit" aid packages.
Golden handcuffs. Name one D2 school in the top 100 academically. Just one.

Landon's students were too frugal and they cheered from behind the fence, looking through cracks in the screens. They were proven to be the smart ones with their cash. At the half, Landon was up something like 12-0, and it kept going in the second half. There was a kid on Churchill's team who made all met that year. He would have only gotten playing time on Landon's squad during garbage time. It is a world of difference between a top IAC school and a MoCo public."
Not certain if MoCo is exactly the same, but Northern Virginia public schools are required to charge admission for HS games. This is how they raise money to help fund the programs. In Arlington at least, everyone, even students, have to pay.
No disagreement that Landon is at the top or has been in years past. To suggest an all met player could not get playing time is silly. Many HS AA and top college recruits do not make All Met. Kids play club so they can compete at that level. If you list the best players to ever play in the DMV area Landon does not have a monopoly.

If it helps you not to see racism in everything, I was at the Churchill/Urbana game too. It was terrible and not much better than Wheaton/Kennedy. Probably a total of 5 kids who could make a Landon or Prep. It was barely a good private jv game.
