He did not deflect. He said they were told price was too high, that they could instruct WMATA and staff to continue to pursue existing procurement with cost-cutting measures, and they did so. Everyone should have pushed harder on NDA, but it was a combined universal error across all electeds and staff.
If you had asked Siberberg, she would claim they weren't told anything until March. I have witnessed her in multiple meetings. I have seen how she can have something explained to her again, and again, and AGAIN, and she does not comprehend it. Notice no other member of Council made the "didn't know until March" claim. That's because it's not true.
For all the people claiming Wilson is a liar, I would submit that Silberberg is the one that is guilty of falsehood in this instance.
By the way, here are the results for the precincts closest to the Potomac Yard station...
111 - POTOMAC YARD
Allison Silberberg 44.87%
Justin M. Wilson 55.13%
106 - CORA KELLY
Allison Silberberg 43.03%
Justin M. Wilson 56.97%
109 - FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS
Allison Silberberg 44.95%
Justin M. Wilson 55.05%
110 - CHARLES HOUSTON CENTER
Allison Silberberg 40.97%
Justin M. Wilson 59.03%
107 - MT VERNON RECREATION CENTER
Allison Silberberg 29.86%
Justin M. Wilson 70.14%
108 - GEORGE WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCH
Allison Silberberg 31.55%
Justin M. Wilson 68.45%
101 - LADREY SENIOR BUILDING
Allison Silberberg 56.12%
Justin M. Wilson 43.88%

Only one of these precincts went for Silberberg. I think a very small number of people have been expressing outrage over this, and further trying to place very specific blame on Wilson. The results show that this outrage is a minority opinion.

Listening to it now here: https://thekojonnamdishow.org
But so far no Wilson, perhaps he called in.

I’m in West Alexandria and she by far has the most signs out in my hood. Also, she was at my polling station today. So we apparently love her out in this neck of the woods!
I certainly don’t mind a council candidate actually showing up in my neighborhood. We don’t get that much out here.![]()
I grew up and live on the west end too, so I get it. But Del Pepper stands for very little and will do close to nothing to move this city ahead. We need young/fresh blood in this city.
+1. Really surprised she got another term.

+1.
And for those interested, he made some off the cuff comment about being an "absent dad" at his Live Oak launch. It went over like a lead balloon.
Show he's tone deaf as well as a liar. Who in Del Ray makes jokes about being a bad parent?
This is all for Justin.
OMG. A nerdy policy wonk guy makes jokes that fall flat. I am shocked, shocked I tell you.
And proud that my fellow citizens didn't vote on that basis.
Same. I think the folks of Alexandria got this one right and I am looking forward to the change.

I really, really hope so! I haven't looked at the latest numbers but the margin for the lead in this case is so slim that it doesn't seem like there is consensus. I haven't heard any names being bounced around, though. We really do need an alternative.
Thanks final is Wilson 53, Silberberg 47. That's not a landslide but it's not that slim a margin either.
Oops autocorrect. The final, not thanks final.
I think it really depends on what else gets released for the foia request after the Potomac Yards contract award is done. If there is damning stuff in there, it could throw things into flux. If it’s just more inconclusive info (ie more vague emails back and forth from this Spring rather than concrete stuff from 2017) I don’t think there is much chance a viable third party candidate will happen.
There are 7 members of Alexandria city council, including the Mayor. As of now, 4 are out. If the Potomac Yards news gets bad enough, watch the new insurgent-majority on the council distance themselves from the Mayor. The Potomac Yards issues, the condition of the schools, and the combination of development and tax issues do not promise an easy term for the Mayor.
Two were leaving anyway, and one of the primary losers, Bailey, had opposed Wilson on the meals tax. Bennett-Parker seems to support the Wilson position on schools, taxes and development. Aguirre and Jackson seem to not be hostile. The only insurgent is Seifeldein, and after his performance at the debate, I don't think he will be good at coalition building.

The filing deadline in any capacity, Democrat, Republican, or Independent, was Tuesday at 7pm. No one has filed for mayor.

You did it to yourself, Alexandria.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Yikes, Wilson winning the primary is a bad thing for Alexandria. Saw him today when I was voting and I so wanted to take him to task for his dishonesty but his children were with him. Guess he felt he needed safety in numbers.
Obviously, I mean that’s the only reason I spend time with my family outside of my home.
I guess but unfortunately for those kids it didn't really look like that close of a relationship if you know what I mean.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Smedberg is out. Wonder how much that has to do with the PY crappola vs just a crowded field of candidates.
Bailey is out too. Chapman and Pepper are the only incumbents who made it.
Is there a Chapman voter here who can tell me what the appeal is? Genuinely interested in the perspective given how much of the vote he got. Thank you.
