I never thought Robert Redford was close, but recently saw Three Days of the Condor and was blown away by how good looking he was too.

For modern day, I think Matt Bomer from White Collar and Jesse Williams are just unbelievably handsome.

For me, the difference between "classically handsome" and just plain hot is that the latter is sometimes a guy with a weird quirk but who pulls it off - like a young Sam Shepard was hot, but not "classically handsome."

Let's not forgot that Newman loved his wife of many many years. Makes even hotter.

Paul Newman and Richard Armitage. YES. Watch "North and South" (BBC 4-part series) with Armitage in it and fall in love. He is an incredibly good-looking man and an even better actor!

The ur-classically handsome:
Paul Newman and Idris Elba
(with Blair Underwood, Robert Redford, Chris Pine and Taye Diggs as runners up. Henry Cavill as a third place)
Rock Hudson with a beard. Good god.
Jon Hamm is ugly/pretty and ends up almost painfully hot.
Lou Gehrig when he was younger was insouciantly pretty with those dimples.
Thomas Beaudoin and Eric Bana are chiseled beauties.

Hugh Grant and Ewan McGregor are easy on the eyes. Too bad they are jerks.

Paul Newman looked like a Greek god. He was so fine.

I think he was the most beautiful man ever. And he was even attractive to his 80s.
