Or just call it PS1

My solution above is the best and the SB has wasted too much time on this already.

So, now we will see if they listen to the community. Predictions?

There is a Marshall but I guess that will go since I assume people will complain about The Marshall Plan eventually. In any event the exact words for the one vote category were really broad:

Justice, Justice Marshall, Justice Thurgood Marshall, Marshall, Thurgood C Marshall, Thurgood Marshall, Thurgood Marshall Justice
444 first
256 second
63 third
763 total [far highest after Stuart]

So call it Justice and hang his portrait. Take the difference between the cheap solution and the expensive and reduce the budget-or let the sending area come up with the money. That school should have people focused on bringing up academic achievement. Which is bad. Better yet get rid of the expensive IB there and it's feeders and the county pay for the change.

Really? That's the plan? Let the community vote on seventy-something names, then ignore the one that got the most votes?

It's actually proceeding as contemplated. The recent community survey suggests an overwhelming preference for changing the name (Stuart received @ 18% of the total votes cast, and other names @82%).

If they pick a new name that isn't just "headless JEB" (i.e., Stuart), they will get significant contributions and the cost to FCPS will be substantially reduced.

Schultz is just throwing another one of her constant hissy fits because she woke up one morning and realized it's not 1958 any longer and most people in her county think her political views are regressive and outdated.

Your understanding is mistaken. The under $200k is for changing to Stuart. Dropping Jeb.

A staff member listed the expenses at length at one of the SB meetings. You can probably find the video if you wish to watch it. And, it did NOT include all the little extra admin expenses.

Does anyone think spending $200,000 to "change" the name to Stuart is a reasonable use of taxpayer money? No one will somehow think it's not named after JEB Stuart. The school board needed to have a backbone and say we're not changing the name, or we are changing the name if we get private funding. This is a total fiasco.

I posted this before I read the earlier responses that were much more specific. I am curious as to where in the world the poster to whom I was responding got $200K --wishful thinking? These expenses are not exaggerated, they are very real and a minimum expense.

Please note again that the upper estimate did not include additional administrative expenses which the "changer" pooh-poohs. He/she must not have experience in the real world.

And, in response to the comments about Schultz. I have no idea if she is on the "warpath" or not--but I hope she is. Why does she care? The money comes out of the coffers of the entire FCPS system--not just Sandy Evans' district. Every taxpayer in Fairfax County should be concerned about spending @$1million to change the name of a school--which will have no impact on student success.

LOL! Learn to add. Learn to think about "unintended consequences"--in this case, all the little problems that arise from changing the name. Stationary, signs, turf, rubber stamps, paperwork, transcripts, binders, logos, more signs, spirit gear, uniforms, athletic equipment, band equipment. Then, think about all the time it will take in administrative duties to purchase and change all of these things. Then, multiply all the extra time that admin will spend on transcripts from former students and all the letters that will have to accompany college admissions processes, etc. SATs; ACTs; All of these things are tied to the school and will cause problems that require time and effort. One million is probably just a start. FCPS has already acknowledged $750 K in real things--they did not take the admin costs into consideration. And, FYI, labor is always one of the biggest expenses.

It's a miracle you can even get out of bed in the morning with all the tasks that confront you.

"Under $200k" is an outright lie. From FCPS:

Assuming the name change is implemented on these items within the first year of implementation, and based on preliminary estimates, the following may be costs involved in a name change:
•Front school marquee, baseball/stadium/softball scoreboards, stadium field logos, gym wall murals, gym wall padding, main gym scoreboard – approximately $270,000
•Athletic team uniforms – approximately $154,000
•Band uniforms and equipment - approximately $150,000
•Other miscellaneous items that carry the school logo (may vary depending on attrition or removal versus replacement) - approximately $104,000

I watched the school board meeting--the video is online somewhere. The FCPS estimate was $400,000 just to change from JEB Stuart to Stuart. A complete name change was estimated at $900,000, which is indeed almost a million. I don't know how it could be done with "as little as under $200k." Surely you aren't suggesting that we do this on the cheap?

And why, by the way, is Elizabeth Schultz on a war path about this again?

Stuart is not even in her magisterial district, yet she won't stop ranting and Tweeting about the name change. Is she still having a hard time getting over the fact that the at-large candidate who supported the name change won by an overwhelming margin last month over the Republican candidate. Including in her own district? Bwahahaha.

No Hon. "Triggered Snowflakes" are those who think they are damaged by the name of a school. They are the "changers". They are the ones who want to spend almost a million dollars to change the name of the school because they think it harms them. They are the ones who put political correctness above common sense.

Sorry. We've all moved on. Sorry you are so stuck in the past. Maybe go cheer yourself up at some rally. Hope no one uses one of your trigger words ("racist") there.

What is your estimate of the cost?
