In DC fewer than 40% commute by car. In Arlington just barely over 50% drive alone.

It certainly is dangerous to cyclists. Nobody can operate a vehicle safely when suddenly startled by a loud noise right next to them.

When you're spending all that time in traffic, it's not because of people on bikes. It's because of you in your car, and me in my car, and all those other people in their cars, all trying to go places in our cars at the same time.
And then, of course, there are buses, which stop and hold up the cars behind them. And people crossing the street on foot -- when I'm driving and stop at a crosswalk (as the law requires) to let people walk across, often other people in cars have to stop behind me. Are people on buses and people on foot also being deliberately obtuse, smug, and obstructionist (of people in cars)?

The hills mean you don't have a sightline to pass and have to wait til you crest the hill. And as people operating vehicles (i.e., their bicycles), they are entitled to use the road, just as you are entitled to use the road while operating your vehicle (i.e., your car).
I get stuck behind bicyclists sometimes when I'm driving. Sometimes I have to wait 30 seconds before it's safe to pass. If I can't stand to wait 30 seconds, or if I'm late because I had to wait 30 seconds, that's on me.
