Certainly you know DCUM is not real life. One or two parents being pissed their kid was not admitted and venting here, or fantasizing about shutting down th school that said it was too good for their kid, has nothing to do with support for TJ IRL. I have been here 15 years, and have notice concern about shifting demographics. And concern about the TJ arms race in western county MSs. And tweaks in admissions on the margins to address it. But I have not seen any decrease in support for the existence of TJ. In fact, it’s pretty clear that no one wants to be the person who changed something and broke TJ.
Or maybe they are people familiar with strong public school systems that didn’t feel the need to create a magnet school or a separate AAP track because they were more secure in their excellence. Or civil rights advocates aware of the dearth of Black and Hispanic kids at TJ. But keep pretending it’s a few malcontents.
Such as?

equity is a liberal disease that has caused major cities to fail for decades
Do you see any asian countries caring about equity. No, humm wonder why their students are so much better and business are doing so well.
Forget the equity bs give the best to the elites and keep the country going
Umm.. Try India. The so called "backward" classes in India get preferential treatment especially in the south. If you are a "forward" community (5% of the population) you are screwed. That's why most of them are here.
India are you out of your mind the country where there are only a handful of top schools available via testing and people prep to death at the chance to get into them. Its not just India, Korea, China operate the same way and low and behold we have the current TJ system full of Indians Koreans and Chinese coincidence I think not. More power to them the best and brightest are being rewarded
I'm not. I am from there so should know what's happening.
Competition to get into top schools is a separate aspect of things. Each group (forward, backward, most-backward, etc) fight for their quota of seats. In the 80's a most-backward person could get into Engineering with a 90% average in senior year. A forward candate would require 99% or above to get into the same school. That hasn't changed much since except that the MB and B's get higher and higher scores increasing the pressure on the forwards..
I am not aware of any affirmative action programs in China and Korea. Would like to hear from people from there.
China and Korea didn't have anything nearly equivalent to the cast system India used to systematically degrade and oppress people you refer to as "backward" and "most backward," so why would they have affirmative action programs like India?

Well, I have to say that their Winter Olympics delegation seems racially diverse.![]()
From MinorityRights.org:
Like its northern neighbour, the Republic of Korea with a population of about 49 million (Source: CIA World Factbook, 2007 estimate) is a very homogeneous country in linguistic and ethnic terms: other than recent migrant groups, there is only one small Chinese minority of perhaps as few as 20,000 people (Source: CIA World Factbook, 2007 estimate).

So this a TJ thread; Let's do some math. India's population is 1.2 B. Apparently the"forward" class is 5%, or 60 million. So there are more than 30 million Indians in the US?![]()
