Did anyone mention the assessment by John Douglas? His idea seems to be the most logical.

I think John had a history of molesting JB, and Patsy's obsession with the weird, sexualized world of child pageants didn't help. Maybe the molestations were escalating, maybe Patsy had just found out about them and had some weirdo jealousy going on instead of a maternal protection instinct. Clearly the family was pretty dysfunctional, and JB was transforming from an object to a young girl with opinions.

So Patsy realizes she's losing control over JB, that John is molesting JB (and maybe Burke too) and probably ignoring her, and she loses her shit. So she takes out JB, plays the grieving mother, regains the stage for herself and garners sympathy from the public and her estranged husband.

Super f*cked up. But it's not the first time this scenario has happened.

Perhaps they were peodophiles, obsessed with JB. Too many coincidences. There own daughter kidnapped on 12/26. Janet wrote a play about a girl tortured in a basement. They would act like an old couple who did not want the media bothering them. But he could not stay away. He showed up outside at the Today Show after they got back from Spain/Portugal. He got himself on tv telling everyone he was Santa and then started rambling about JB.

O.k. I don't understand why this married, older couple would do this. If the sexual assault was staged and they weren't looking for money....why? I just don't see a motive for them.

Why would McReynolds sexually assault JonBenet if his motive was to get the ransom money? If the intruder was still downstairs with JonBenet's body, he may have been waiting for John to leave to go to the bank. Then he would have killed Patsy and Burke - maybe staged them too.

And when John got back with the money he would kill John, dump his body in some remote location and keep the money.

Police would think that John had gone berserk and killed his family.

NP here. I think it was Bill "Santa" McReynolds and his wife Janet Doris McReynolds. He had played Santa at the Christmas parties for a few years and his wife joined him as Mrs Santa that year. Their own daughter had been kidnapped with a friend 22 years prior to the day. Their daughter was not harmed but had to watch the friend be assaulted. It was suspicious. It happened also on Dec. 26th! Janet also wrote a play about a girl that was held against her will and abused in a basement. Also the ransom note and Janet's rant on Larry King were very similar. Janet and Bill were interviewed by Wolf Blitzer (Google- Bill McReynolds Larry King)
Part of the ransom note said " If we catch you talking to a stray dog she dies. If you alert bank authorities, she dies. If the money is in any way marked or tampered with, she dies. You will be scanned for electronic devices and if any are found, she dies" Later Wolf asks her about the similarities between their own daughter being attacked on Dec. 26 and they said something like they didn't remember the day. How could you forget Dec 26.

On Larry King Janet went on a rant about the media and said " Every time I see one of those videos of her prancing across the stage in her adorable costume, I cringe. And I feel that the message I am getting- the under current of all this - is that the media is saying to this collective community- to our global village- in some way she deserved to die. That, at least, is the message that I am getting. She deserved to die because she was too beautiful. She deserved to die because she was from an affluent family. She deserved to die because she lived in an upscale community. She deserved to die...."
Is Janet saying what she thinks the media is saying or are these her own thoughts. It is the same rant like the ransom note.
They also conviently went to Portugal right after the murder even though they portrayed Bill as unwell due to surgery.

Bill McReynolds has since died. I think these two are very suspicious.

It is still really bizarre to me that the police didn't search the room in the basement where JonBenet's body was found because the door was jammed and they couldn't open it...

I wonder if it's possible that an intruder was in that room with JonBenet's body and holding the door shut on the other side. Maybe he was going to wait for John to get back with the ransom money, kill the family and flee with the $118K.....then Patsy called the cops. Oops. Somehow he got out of there w/o being seen. Maybe through that unlocked door (that used to be locked?).

Yet, another theory.

That makes no sense because it's basically the same thing. A 9 year old who hits his sister with a flashlight one time and injures her is not going to jail. I doubt he would have meant to give her a closed head injury either. In reality even with that theory he didn't kill her at all, unless he was the one who strangled her. so again, mom happens onto an accidental (what she would assume - I don't think you'd jump to one of your kids beating the other that badly) injury, and instead of deciding to call 911 she decided to stage a brutal murder (in the process, committing actual murder).

It seems way more logical that even if you believe an intruder was impossible that the parents did it intentionally. That or they know who (another adult) did it so it wasn't an intruder per se.

Actually it looks as though there is disagreement among the experts as to whether or not there was older sexual abuse....some say "yes", others "no". Poor little one.
