Some of the comments here are quite interesting. I wish we could see who is writing here. I am guessing half of these replies are probably from people with certain interests in this facility being built.
First, if you really think traffic is bad for around 1 hour a day then you do not live in the area.
Second, nobody is against retirement facilities. Sunrise can build the facility on ANY LOT THAT HAS THE REQUIRED ZONING AND IS AT LEAST 5 ACRES. All the pro-retirement rant is nonsense. Not only they need to a rezoning of the plot but also they need an exemption to the 5 acres.
Third, on what grounds are you suggesting that a church generates more traffic than a assisted living facility? Again, nonsense arguments - think about the number of employees that they need plus the additional nurses, doctors, family members that will be there on daily basis.

It is not GIANT. It area is congested two hours a day. 30 minutes for Longfellow and 30 minutes for McLean in the AM and 30 minutes for Longfellow and 30 minutes for McLean in the evening. Everything else is NORMAL for NOVA- is not less. Haycock's traffic doesn't get that far down to Kirby- it is a clusterfuck at Haycock and Westmoreland for its 30 minutes before and after, but it does not highly impact the proposed site.

I think you are reaching. There is one next to Longfellow that I would consider "immediate area". We live near Vinson Hall and I haven't noticed a ton of traffic from them especially considering its size. The only other one I know that is nearish (and that is a stretch is next to Lewinsville Presbyterian Church near Great Falls and 123- I cannot see how traffic there affects the intersection of Westmoreland and Kirby.

First, it is my opinion that this is most likely brought about by a builder that was out bid for the property, then got residents to help out in the shouting. Funny how a church property somehow got zoned for 3 homes per acre(something a builder can do, even if the property isn't theirs).

And traffic will only be improved. Any project will certainly include widening of Westmoreland St, to allow traffic to get by people waiting to turn left on to Youngblood. When they improved the Westmoreland/Kirby intersection, they didn't come far enough towards Poole Ln. It can back up to Southridge, 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile away.

Id be for it. They offered sidewalks, a conservation area plus connecting trails. I dream of sidewalks that my kids can use to walk/bike safely to school.
