Here's a novel idea. Before we got engaged, my husband and I talked about finances and our budget after marriage. We talked about how much we had in savings and what goals we had - house, kids. We then came up with a budget for our wedding and our rings. I wrote him a check for my "half" of my ring and he surprised me with a ring a few months later. I got the ring I wanted because I saved for it too. I don't expect my husband to support me. Why would I expect him to solely purchase such a big ticket item alone?

Mine was just under that, I don't get mad compliments on it, but I am not embarassed either.

What's a respectable sized engagement ring in DC?

All of the ladies in my circle are at least wearing 1.5 carats.

You are asking this question? Respectable? For you?

You're shallow. NO RING FOR YOU!

Anonymous wrote:I was fine with my rings - until DH and I started having marital problems. Not the only thing, but it was added on to feeling very taken for granted. I work my a$$ off as a co-parent, contributing joint income, and household manager. He had no problem buying himself expensive cars and country club memberships. The ring wasn't really the problem, but it became the lightening rod symbol for some unhappiness.

Listen to her. Don't get engaged to a selfish guy.

So neither of you worry about getting hit on in a grocery store, bar, or countless other places.

Wow.

Worry about getting hit on? Do you think you're obligated to have sex with anyone who hits on you?

If you worry about being hit on, you need anxiety medication. I assure you, it is not as scary as you think. You don't need a protection amulet to survive it
