Anyway, now that we've established that I'm deceitful and/or a moron, let's go back to what the chart does show. I think it is curious that Marshall had higher written SAT scores than any school in the county other than TJ, Langley, or Oakton (with which it tied). (See, all corrected.)
Now, I'm not even a resident of FC, although I will be soon--so I certainly can't explain. Was actually interested in whether there's a story there.

Great resource, thanks. We are looking in some of these districts now. We would prefer Langley, McLean or Madison but may be priced out.
What's your budget? For example, there are some less expensive homes zoned for Langley in Herndon or in western Great Falls.

Also curious is that in 2014 Marshall had higher average Scores on the writing portion of the SAT than any school in the county other than Langely or TJ.
That isn't even true, by the way.

According to this, the only two schools that had higher writing SAT scores than Marshall in 2014 were Langely and TJ. Oakton tied with Marshall (576). Are you just playing gotcha with the poster because Oakton was tied?
Are you just trying to obfuscate that the Marshall poster either deliberately lied or failed to read the FCPS information correctly? There seems to be a real pattern of Marshall posters playing fast and loose with facts in their zeal to make the school look better.
I'm the one who posted it. Ya got me. I missed that there was a tie with Oakton. You so smart. Give yourself a pat on the back. But you made an incorrect assumption that I'm a Marshall parent. I live in Arlington. I'm looking at data on FCPS because I'm looking to move to FC. Haven't decided where I'm going to move yet, so I don't have a horse in the game. Actually leaning toward McLean, in fact, although I haven't ruled out Marshall. I was just noting the writing scores because I thought it was an interesting departure. Note that you saw a Marshall parent being smarmy from a statement that wasn't even complimentary of Marshall (I called it "curious" that they did so well).
It doesn't take any great smarts to read a chart correctly, simply a willingness to accept the facts and present them correctly. You should try it next time.

Yup. +100 And that's just fine with Marshall families who would prefer the school remains a welcoming place where the students and the parents aren't so full of themselves and have better things to do than look at meaningless rankings. Lower median SAT scores mean nothing when your kid's are perfect.
That's a laugh. The culture at Marshall in recent years has been very focused on the school's rankings and test scores. Anyone who has driven by the school and seen the school's electronic billboard or walked inside and seen the huge display about the SOL scores knows that.
Believe what you want. I've had three kids go there, two currently, so I'm part of the Marshall community and know what goes on there. You apparently, have no firsthand experience of the school, but are able to discern what it's like from an electronic billboard out front.![]()
GCM administrators are big boosters of the kids and the school. They like to celebrate successes and that positive vibe (even when it goes a bit over the top) permeates the school. Who wouldn't like that attitude at a school?

Too bad about the math and reading.
Weren't that bad, but you're right that it doesn't fit. Scores generally are more consistent. Is this because of IB? Is there more writing focus with IB? I don't know--just a shot in the dark.
