The US doesnt win wars because of the quality of our soldiers, but because of our economic weight that allows us to spend more on our military than the rest of the world put together. So yes, the billionaires are the real war heros, not some thrice-crashing loser.
Oh geez. Look, I think it was absolutely ridiculous for the U.S. To get involved in Vietnam. The toll there was horrific, if anyone is ever there I encourage you to check out the War Renembrance museum in HCMC. Very poignant. It's amazing that the country doesn't appear to harbor a great deal of ill will towards the U.S., I wouldn't blame them if they did.
That said, most of the U.S. soldiers who served were drafted. What were feasible alternative options for draftees besides having a legal deferment or moving to Canada? The soldiers were largely pawns in a larger game that they didn't control, and many vets are still suffering the consequences today.

“‘Service’ in our military to invade, occupy, and oppress countries in order to extend U.S. Empire must not be glorified as a ‘heroic’ and sacred effort,” Paul writes. “My five years in the Air Force during the 1960s did not qualify me as any sort of hero.”
“My primary thoughts now about that period of time are: ‘Why was I so complacent, and why did I so rarely seriously question the wisdom of the Vietnam War?’” Paul writes. “The sad part is that the military personnel who march off to war are more victims and dupes than heroes.”
Our culture that praises war and punishes truth -tellers

Nothing but an empty opinion not worthy of any further breath.
It would've taken greater strength by McCain to say "no, I cannot go along with military action in Vietnam. It is wrong". Imagine the son of an admiral saying that during that time?
But that is *NOT* what Trump is saying. Trump is saying McCain isn't a hero because wasn't "Rambo" enough for his liking. Trump is lost in fantasy land.
Yes this is true. I didn't address anything about what trump was saying is right or wrong.
I'm just saying that I do not think one can be called a hero if they participate in something that is horrifically unjust.
Ah, I see... so you are just interjecting your own arbitrary and unrelated commentary into a thread about Trump. Wow, you must have an even bigger ego than Trump.

where's the false premise? That heroes can be heroes when acting unjust?
Two false premises:
1. Vietnam was an unjust war.
2. Anyone participating in an unjust war is a coward.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:If having the bravery to go into combat, to fly into energy fire, withstanding torture and years of captivity by the enemy and still having the strength and loyalty to stand up for and not leave fellow soldiers behind is "not even worthy of a shrug"
(shrug) I did not say that was true. Read for comprehension, dolt.
Everyone who goes into combat is not a hero.
Everyone who gets shot down is not a hero.
Everyone who is captured is not a hero.
Everyone who is tortured is not a hero.
If you knew anything about the military, you would know this, dolt.
Anonymous wrote: then in comparison, what does it make the PP who expounded on that opinion? Considering the PP probably never served, much less in combat, much less directly faced the enemy, much less ever had to deal with captivity and torture, much less had the strength to stand up for fellow soldiers? In my opinion, it makes the PP even lower than a dog turd.
Your idiotic ad hominem argument here shows that you have a dog turd for a brain.
