Hmmm, I love my dad, but I don't do those things with him. I love my kids. I love my best friend who is the same gender as I am and quite straight like me. I'm pretty sure I can love someone and support them without having sex with them, dating them, or marrying them.

just because a man mentally thinks he is a woman does not make him a woman. If a schizophrenic thinks he is doctor does that make him a doctor even if he had never attended college. Experts don't consider it a disorder. Considering how unbelievably the complex the body and especially the brain are, it stands to reason that just a slight variation here or there could make a person innately feel s/he is a particular gender, even if it doesn't match their sex organs. That's not a disorder. That's a difference. And since it hurts no one, what is the big deal?

And what treatment or cure would you suggest for somebody who is transgender? My personal favorite treatment is hormone replacement therapy and acceptance.

The American Psychiatric Association (aka the association of people who are actually medically qualified to define and diagnose mental disorders) disagrees with you:

A psychological state is considered a mental disorder only if it causes significant distress or disability. Many transgender people do not experience their gender as distressing or disabling, which implies that identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder. For these individuals, the significant problem is finding affordable resources, such as counseling, hormone therapy, medical procedures and the social support necessary to freely express their gender identity and minimize discrimination. Many other obstacles may lead to distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault. These experiences may lead many transgender people to suffer with anxiety, depression or related disorders at higher rates than nontransgender persons.
