What host is not ready 10 or 15 minutes before the invited time? Unless you are a procrastinator or disorganized or inexperienced at entertaining this shouldn't be a problem.
Apparently most of the people in DC. Which is surprising because everyone is so damn uptight.
Who cares if they are ready or not 10 minutes before the invited time. That's their personal time and you weren't invited to come over before that. You can get a lot done in 15 minutes before the guests arrive and having some idiot show up early is a pain in the ass.

+1. Obviously this is a person who shows up early and doesn't understand why she isn't welcomed with open arms. If your host wanted you to arrive at 10 til 8 - not 8 - she'd ask you to come at 10 til 8. This is so glaringly, SMH obvious that my mind is boggled by this thread. NO ONE WANTS EARLY GUESTS!

Clearly you are socially awkward. The purpose of the party is to socialize with you. But not until the invited time (you said that you show up at the right time, which is fine; I would prefer 5 minutes later, but on time is absolutely fine). If you can't stay long, then you can't. Nobody has indicated that the hosts are not ready on time. They are just not necessarily ready before that time.
And for the people that sit outside the house, that just makes you both rude and crazy. Drive around. Check out a park. Do something other than essentially sit on the front lawn waiting.
