yup, it's obvious. the deal is to have childcare in place if he wants to work from home and he knows it's not always possible to keep them quiet when he needs to lead a conference call. his job requires quiet moments so he goes where it's quiet. was i supposed to get offended with your comment?

He's having conference calls at the library?!

She sounds like kind of a jerk, but you need to teach your kids the concept of "inside voices." They shouldn't be yelling in the house except in urgent circumstances.

She can't expect silence during the day but it is reasonable to not want frequent running and yelling.

Take your kids outside more and let them run around and yell in the playground.

New poster and I have not gotten past page one, so god only knows what you hens are pecking on about.

But NOPE to this. My kids can have fun in as well as outside the house. They'll not be kids forever and one day they will be crushed into a joyless American existence just lile the wretched neighbor, but it won't be by me.

The lawer can move and buy a SFH. Not everyone is cut out for high density living.

You are right, she is wrong, OP. Just live your life.

The lawyer sounds like a whiny bitch. You tried to be nice and flexible. Yes, sometimes kids scream. And the posters berating OP about kids using card board boxes down stairs - you guys never did silly stuff like that? I did and it doesn't make me a bad parent, nor did I have bad parents.

OP is entitled. She is entitled to let her own kids play in her own home without keeping them quiet to please her entitled neighbor. She has rights -- she is as "entitled" as the neighbor is to feel at home in her own home.

I'm still with you OP.

Disrespectful? Like in "isolating our walls, not allowing ball play, no playing upstairs and not complaining about 11PM laundry habits" disrespectful?
Get a grip.

OP, you are not helping your case. You sound like a real entitled jerk.

After page 5 or so it doesn't really matter. The landlords email was enough to show me who's the unreasonable part. BTW she left a note on our door apologizing and asking to talk about it.
We accepted her apology and she's coming over for coffee later today.

Op, you sound extremely entitled. I bet you are a horrible neighbor. The noises and activities that you have described are not okay.

I hope your lawyer neighbor rips you a new asshole.

Because we want the flexibility to move whenever we feel like.
Because we invest our money in other things.
Because we don't want the expenses that come with homeownership.
I guess this is it for now.

Wait-- depending on their ages, it really should be *possible* to keep them quiet when it really matters. You do need to teach them this!

Good luck trying to keep an almost 2yo quiet when YOU want them to keep quiet.

Well OK-- it would not always work with a 2 year old. But you certainly should be introducing the expectation and cultivating the skill, even though there will be lapses (hopefully followed by reminders) for several years yet.

My 5yo keeps quiet when I ask. I have migraines and they're pretty awesome about calming down until my meds kick in and I ask them to be extremely quiet and get the room dark. We're not that loud I assure you.
