not an Olney poster or a supporter of any other school. Happily retired. The expectation in schools like Springbrook, Blair, etc are very different from the expectations at Churchill,Wooton, etc. So, the standards are very different.

What I get from this discussion is that many SS parents and the various organizations that have a commercial stake in promoting SS like to say SS schools are good. By their standards they maybe. You must decide if they meet your standards.

I'm an Olney poster, but I didn't post that comment, PP. (I know dozens of Olney moms who read DCUM btw.)

RE: the DCC - I don't know anyone who got their first choice school unless it was the school they were already zoned for...so folks shouldn't buy a home in one area and count on getting into another HS in th DCC.

Silver Spring schools do not compare favorably with schools in the so called green zone.

They just don't.

Hands down Highland View ES.
Nice teachers, with years of experience.
Great and firm principal who deals with any problem.
Kids who misbehave do not get a free ride.
Being sent to the office is not a 5 minute pep talk time.

At this school, children do not choke each other, teachers do not fall down and have concussions, and students do not run away from the school and have several adults chasing them down the street (just happened at a nearby school).

OP, I'd love to know if you've started looking at homes yet, and what areas you decided on. This thread got crazy!
