from the parents I know there. They're all applying elsewhere
Why have the parents said they're applying elsewhere?
None of them chose Sela because they wanted Hebrew, they all chose it because they got shut out elsewhere and Sela has free aftercare this year. I know three parents with students there. And one parent wasn't crazy about a teacher, but it's not a teacher who left because I would have heard about that.

Dr. Lody has announced he is leaving Sela at the end of this school year. The school is still without a principal and Dr. Lody hasn't been the most attentive to the students needs as he should have been. In my opinion it's best he does leave, he's been rapped up with his new marriage and now he's adopting a kid. He's been letting many things fall short at the school. I'm a little concerned about the leadership not being stable and a few teachers have left as well.
What's the story with the teachers who have left? Why did they leave?
Which grades have lost teachers? I haven't noticed changes to the teacher names on the Sela website.
I'm wondering this too, although I haven't been checking their website. Just hadn't heard it from the parents I know there. They're all applying elsewhere, but haven't heard anyone mention the loss of teachers (doesn't mean it didn't happen of couse).

I'm interested in Sela for 2015-6 PK-4, primarily for two reasons:
1) Dec. 31 birthday cutoff
2) Hebrew

really? you must live a very sheltered life. lots of people in D.C. have very few choices. it really isn't hard to imagine.

sela made my list. Would have been higher except the location is pretty inaccessible for us.

Seems like it would be a big draw for jewish kids (we aren't jewish but I'd like that demographic for my kids' peers).

Well then, at least you are one parent here who can be 100% sure you'll get into a school on your list in the first round. Which, if that's what you want, must be a very nice feeling!

That's a good question. DCUM'ers who've been around a long time: what are some other schools that opened and, for one reason or another didn't last past year 1 or 2? Are there debts that charters incur that become an issue if they fold? How long do they usually have leases for? Just wondering if anyone knows some of the details of other charters that have folded (for reasons other than fraud, like Options).

Meaning, Options folded because of fraud/stealing, but what other charters have folded early in their existence and anyone know details?
