I'm sorry, but the money people make is "inspiring"? How about the actual work people are doing to earn that money? Do you have anything to say about the teachers and social workers making in the $40K range? Their ANNUAL salary is less than what some people on this thread get as a BONUS. Think about that. This income disparity is just outrageous to me. People working their asses off to make their communities and country a better place make next to nothing, and everybody else is getting rich. It's not right.

I am a sahm, earning nothing, and like you PP I teach, I counsel, I cook, I clean, I chauffer, I manage.

Can I ask why? That seems like a low pay for what you do. Why not join a practice or something?

I was previously in a surgical residency but realized I didn't wany to devote my life to the hospital. I am in a primarily non patient care position which means no calls from the ER, no rounding on the weekend, sleeping through the night, and being a happier person. I really like my job as well.

Private practice (if I chose to go into a more direct patient care route) would likely require me to see 30+ patients a day and be miserable. I suppose I could do consulting or go into corporate medicine but am happy with where I'm at. Perhaps reading more of these threads will influence me to chase more $$$!

I wish I made what some of these folk make but I don't put down anyone for grabbing every dollar they can - as long as they're paying taxes and all that because Social Security IS my retirement plan.

No shit! I worked FT until I was 31 and never broke $50K. Now I work PT during my daughter's school hours and am paid hourly and make about the same. I have an undergrad degree from a well respected national university and a Master's degree in my field. What an effing waste of time and money. I never seemed to be at the right place at the right time career-wise.

My husband just broke 6 figures at 34 with a degree in engineering and a security clearance. To be fair, he only finished his degree a couple years ago because he joined the military right out of high school and got his degree part time while working.

Money isn't everything, but HOLY GEEZ!

This is how I feel, too. We both work, we're in our early 30s, and together our household income is $140k. I thought we were doing great... until I read this thread.

You ARE going great!

If this inspires you, then fine, whatever.

Personally, I'm not inspired or disguested by what others make. it's just money. My job inspires me. The money is just what pays my bills.
