Schools like Carleton get you into the law schools that you have heard of. Look at the graduate school placement for midwest SLACs and you'll be likely impressed.
My understanding is that it is a good school. I had just never come across someone who went there and had never heard of it. I did know about Williams, Middlebury, Pomona, etc.

Not trying to be rude, but really it’s your problem if you haven’t heard of it. Look at its USNWR ranking. Highest PhD producer in the whole country.
I’m the PP and I have heard of it. But this thread is about prestige and Carleton is just not going to do that. I don’t have any beef either Carleton or any of the other midwestern schools. In fact, we’re looking at these schools for my daughter. But, what we’re not looking for is prestige. If that’s what you want, stick to the coasts. Carleton will not do that for you as just about no one outside of some small select circles know about it.

I don't think I realized how regional this all is until I moved here from the Midwest. I've definitely heard of all the schools OP is asking about, and all have good reputations in the Midwest. But I've *barely* heard of William & Mary, which is clearly regarded as a top school in this area. (FWIW I went to Stanford in the '90s. The other schools I applied to were a handful of Ivies, the University of Illinois, and Carleton. Quite certain I'd never heard of W&M at that point.)

For example, Ivy league schools are prestigious amongst wives of lawyers with small "appendiges."

What Midwest SLAC would be more prestigious?
Carleton is the most prestigious of them. That isn't mutually exclusive with not being well known outside of the Midwest.
If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound? If a college is "prestigious" yet almost no one knows about it, is it prestigious?
