Well, unfortunately a "vast majority" doesn't oppose gay marriage. If we simply got government out of the "marriage" business and had it license civil unions, a significant majority would be in favor. Anyway, what the majority believes is kind of irrelevant. Civil rights aren't up for a vote, or black people would still be slaves in Red State America.
